Hello ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to our very first episode of Product Smackdown! Tonight we will decide who will take the title of Jiawun's "OMGTHISISLIKETHEBESTMASCARAEVER". In the ring tonight, we have an all-time favourite of people, the Benefit They're Real! We also have the underdog, the Revlon Photoready 3D Volume Mascara!
I got the Benefit They're Real Mascara about 2 weeks ago in Sephora, and have been using it ever since. I always use Benefit They're Real on my left lashes, and Revlon 3D on my right lashes- yes, I walk around with different mascaras on each eye. Both these mascaras are known to be pretty similar. There is one HUGE difference though, the price points.
Benefit They're Real: RM85-RM95 (Sephora)
Revlon 3D Photoready: RM35.90-RM40 (Watsons, Guardian- any drugstores/pharmacies)
The price of the Revlon 3D is less than half the price of the They're Real!
The wands of the mascara are the most compared, followed by the formula. As you can see in the picture above, the only similarity in the wand is that they both have a pointed tip. I actually prefer my Revlon wand as opposed to the Benefit wand. The Benefit wand tip has really spikey points and I always poke myself while trying to apply it. The brush on the Benefit is also a lot bigger and for people like me with really short lashes, that could be a problem as it is very easy to get product on your eyelid during application.

After Pictures:
Revlon (Your left); Benefit (Your right)
You can see in the pictures that: in terms of length, the Revlon one is more lengthening. But in terms of volume and "fakeness", Benefit wins. Both don't hold curl well; but I find that volumising mascaras rarely hold curl (maybe because they're weighty?)
FINAL VERDICT:
Benefit They're Real: Good if you want clumpy, dramatic and fuller looking eyelashes. If more than one coat is applied, eyelashes can start to look spidery.
Revlon 3D Photoready: Good if you want more natural looking, but yet dramatic and fuller looking eyelashes. If more than two coats is applied, eyelashes can start to look spidery?
So.. who wins the title of "THISISTHEBESTMASCARAEVER" today? (in my opinion)
DRUMROLL PLEASEEEEE.
Revlon 3D Photoready!!!
It's affordable, it's suitable for everyday wear (day or night), it looks really good! The main reason that I like this better is because I like more natural looking eyelashes that have that little bit of oomph in it. This is definitely something that I would recommend to anyone who has sparse eyelashes. This has been my go-to mascara ever since I got it in December 2012. This is RM35.90 well spent.
The Benefit They're Real is also a great mascara, but like I said, it's more of a clumpy formula that I really don't like on my lashes. I use this when I need a little bit more drama. If you do already naturally have fuller lashes, this might work a little better. Having clumpy, sparse lashes makes it look like you only have a few strands of eyelashes. Haha, not a good look. But overall, still a great mascara, I just won't repurchase it at the steep price of RM85.
Thanks for reading! :)
