SWATCH & SEE: Ciaté Chalkboard Manicure Sets

Hey guys! Today’s post is on a brand that’s pretty new to me: Ciaté! I’ve heard about it a ton of times through beauty gurus on YouTube but the brand was only recently available here in Malaysia. Ciaté is a brand of nail polish that has come up with the latest and coolest ideas like the Caviar Nails, Velvet Nails, Foil Nails & finally.. the Chalkboard Nails: this is what today’s post is ALL about! My sister bought this set for me from Sephora in the USA. I’m not sure if Sephora Malaysia sells it yet.

This set includes:
1 Chalkboard Paint Pot
4 Coloured Pens (blue, white, pink, yellow)
1 Mattnificent (matte top coat)
Retails for: $25
HOW TO:
1. Paint your nails 2 coats of the Chalkboard Paint Pot
1 coat:
2 coats:
2. Draw on your desired design
3. Add the Mattnificent Matte Top Coat
First Impression
I was really excited when I saw this set because I LOVE doing nail art but I suck I’m really bad at it. So when I saw this, I instantly thought, “wow, this must be super beginner friendly!” but turns out.. it’s really not. The coloured pens are extremely difficult to control and use. The tips of the coloured pens are too wide to draw much on the nail (that’s why I did such a simple design). There is a design booklet included in the set but majority of the designs were impossible with the wide pen tips. It’s hard to get the colour out of the pen and when it does, it’s hard to control and it goes EVERYWHERE. The nail polish is difficult to apply (it separates really fast), it leaves patches on the nails (as you can see on the 1 coat swatch). The matte top coat doesn’t really do anything.
Final Verdict
This nail set is a cool concept, but.. that’s it. To me, there’s nothing good about the formula or anything. I was very disappointed with the whole set. Sadly, I wouldn’t repurchase or recommend this eventhough their other nail sets (Caviar & Velvet) have really good reviews.
Overall:

  • i feel ur disappointment….as I look at ur close up pic I felt disappointed buy the sticky and super concentrated formula that make it so hard to get a even coat on the nails…

  • Yup! Gloopy and also the oil and the colour keeps getting separated. Such a disappointment for the $$. Thanks for reading Cindy! 🙂

  • Oh it looks terrible indeed!

  • Yeah, unfortunately, it does 🙁

  • when saw the first coat image, i thought it's the shutter nail series. =x
seems like not really easy to use but i like the concept and the colors.

  • Haha, sure looks like it! Shatters only crack when they dry, this one separates when I'm trying to paint. LOL. It is a pretty cool concept. Thanks for reading 🙂

  • Wow, when I first saw these in Sephora I thought the concept was cool.. but after looking at your pictures, it doesn't seem to be so nice (the polish itself, not your designs :P). I wish it didn't look so streaky or anything, chalkboards don't do that! haha. Thanks for sharing!
