Ever wanted to take your cleansing routine to the next level? Clinique has newly launched their Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush which is their famous 3-Step Skin Care System’s bestie! I was invited to their launch of this brush to find out a little bit more about Clinique as a brand, their history, and also this brush.
The Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush runs on a sonic system which basically makes it really gentle on the skin. A sonic system allows the brush head to rotate left and right, instead of making a full 360 degree rotation in one direction. The sonic system has so many rotations in a second, that all you end up seeing is vibration of the brush head. During the event, there was a demonstration on how gentle this brush is on the skin. Using a tissue paper (see above picture), they placed it on the back of the hand and wet the tissue (which makes it very prone to tears), and used the brush on it – and there were no tears, at all! This shows how gentle the brush can be on your skin.
The first time using this brush, you will notice how the whiteheads and blackheads around the t-zone area get removed to reveal smoother skin. This brush takes cleansing to a whole new level by not only cleansing the surface of the skin, but also bringing out and cleansing the impurities deep within the surface of the skin. Some people might break out after using this brush for the first few weeks because the impurities within the skin are brought out to the surface, which is a good thing. After a few weeks of use, those breakouts and blemishes will start to disappear and the impurities which were once within the skin would have been brought out and cleansed.
The brush was developed by Dr David and Dr Catherine Orentreich (son and daughter of founding dermatologist, Dr Norman Orentreich) with the help of a Swiss manufacturer. The design was made to make the most out of your cleansing routine for every part of your face.
The oval-shaped brush head allows for more precise and targeted cleansing in the hard-to-reach areas like the sides of the nose, the hairline and the chin.
Two different strengths of bristles makes it easy to clean each part of your face gently. The green part of the brush head has shorter and firmer bristles to allow more efficient cleaning of the t-zone (which are prone to oil, and breakouts). The white part of the brush head has longer and softer bristles for more delicate parts of the skin, like the cheeks.
This brush is very lightweight, and is easy to travel with. It is also completely waterproof so it can be used in the shower. There is a self-timer which automatically turns off the brush in 30 seconds, which is the recommended time of using this brush when you first start using it (30 seconds, at night). After your skin is used to it, build up to 1 minute once a night (simply turn on the brush again once it automatically turns off). Slowly build up to 1 minute, twice daily. Gently glide the brush across your face – there is no need to apply pressure. The brush is rechargeable and one full charge lasts up to 3 hours (which is approximately 3 months of use, considering you only use it for 2 minutes per day).
This brush is developed for and best used with the Clinique 3-Step Skin Care System, but can be used with any foam cleansers. I’m still testing out this brush, but I will do a full-on review on how it worked for my skin once I know for sure.
