Hi guys! Today’s post is on the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet in Burning Lava. I’m sorry that I’ve been posting tons of lip product reviews and hauls recently but I didn’t bring much makeup with me. I picked this up from Chemist Warehouse my first week here in Perth, so I’ve tried it for over two weeks and formed quite a strong opinion on it. I don’t consider Rimmel to be “available” in Malaysia because they only stock really old products with a limited selection (they don’t even stock the Stay Matte powder!!).

I’ve tried one of the original Rimmel Apocalips (in Celestial) that I got from my swap with Stacey two years back (WHAT!). I really liked it so when I found this Lip Velvets range, I was so happy! The Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvets are like the name suggest, lip creams that dry to a velvety, matte finish. There were only 4 shades available in the Chemist Warehouse here, and this one in 505 Burning Lava was the only one that caught my eye.

Applicator

The applicator on this is similar to the original Apocalips. It has a doe-foot applicator that has a hole (I don’t like the word hole lol) in the middle. I’m terrible at describing things, but hopefully you can tell by the picture above. I love this applicator and it makes applying the lip cream so easy. Firstly, the little hole picks up just the right amount of product for my entire lips. It’s also the perfect shape and sits nicely on top of my lips when I’m applying the lip cream.

Burning Lava is a gorgeous deep red shade that is perfect for fall and winter.

Formula

The formula of this Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet is amazing. It glides on the lips so smooth and evenly and it’s super pigmented. The lip cream is not sticky on the lips at all and dries down to a velvety finish in about 30 seconds. The finish of this is not completely flat matte, but makes your lips look velvety smooth. They aren’t glossy or anything, but the light cannot be avoided in the picture since I was standing in front of a huge window.
This is so comfortable to wear on the lips and it lasts on the lips for quite some time. I wore it for 4 hours straight without any fading or feathering, but it definitely comes off when you eat. It still leaves a beautiful stain after the colour wears off but I prefer touching up my lips after I eat because I’m left with a ring of colour around my lip line lol. It’s definitely not a moisturising lip product, but it doesn’t feel or look drying on my lips, which is amazing for a matte lip cream.
I’m so happy with this purchase and I’ve been wearing this so much. I love that it’s not a bright red, and that it has a beautiful velvet finish. The formula is impeccable and I love how comfortable it feels (for a matte lipstick) on my lips. If I can find other shades, I’m definitely purchasing them! Have you tried the Rimmel Apocalips Lip Velvet? What’s your favourite shade?
Thanks for reading, xoxo
