Hey guys! I have another BB Cushion review for you, and this is on the The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion. As the name suggests, it’s great for oily-combo skin – it hydrates the skin while controlling the oil production on your face. This cushion also boasts to be long-lasting, non-sticky, and sweatproof! I’ve put it to the test, on what seems like a deep-fryer you find at fast food restaurants, my face.
There are several main ingredients in this Water Cushion that stands out among the sea of BB Cushions:
Hydration – The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion is formulated with Water from Tasmania, Australia and Italian Oxygen Water to help hydrate the face. One of the reasons our skin produces so much oil is because the inner layers of the skin are dehydrated, and the skin produces more oil to counteract that.
Oil-Control – Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract and Blooming Rose Powder is used to help control sebum production on the face.
Long Lasting – Skin Fit Cover Powder helps to make the foundation completely sweatproof so it’s long lasting.
This is shade V201 Brighter, and it is slightly lighter than my skin tone. There are unfortunately, only two shades available as of now.
Micro Foam Applicator
It comes with a “Micro Foam” which is 4x denser than a regular makeup sponge to give an airbrushed look to the skin. The Micro Foam is also formulated in such a way that it doesn’t soak up all the product so you get the most out of your Water Cushion. Because these “Micro Foam” puffs have many pores, they recommend applying it using a dab-and-roll method instead of swiping, and the product will apply to the skin very smooth and evenly.
Formula and Finish
The finish this Water Cushion gives is the middle ground between dewy and matte. It’s definitely not dewy, but not matte either. It’s supposed to mimic natural, radiant skin. It has a fragrance that isn’t overpowering, it smells fresh, but if you’re sensitive to smell, you’d definitely notice it. Other than that, the three major things I look for in a BB Cushion is Coverage, Longevity, and Smooth Application.
Coverage-wise, I’d have to say it’s pretty darn good! The pictures above were taken in different lighting situations (hence the washed-out after picture), but it still shows the coverage quite well. I have a lot of acne scars and this covers my blemishes up very well. I would say it has medium coverage so it won’t cover the harder-to-cover blemishes like the huge hormonal zits you get right before that time of the month, lol, but nothing a little concealer can’t fix!
The longevity of this, I would say, is okay. It lasts a good 4-6 hours (depending on a number of factors) before my face gets shiny and needs touching up. If I don’t, it’ll start to slide off my oil-slick of a face, and cling onto the drier parts. A solid 4-6 hours is a pretty good wear time for a BB Cushion, or a BB Cream in general I find. But I’m usually out for more than 4-6 hours of the day, and because of the crazy humidity here in Malaysia, I always set this with a setting powder to get maximum wear.
The application is pretty amazing, as it is smooth and applies on the face evenly. So, out of the 3 things I look for in my BB Cushions, I would say The Face Shop Oil Control Water Cushion ticks 2 and a half (half for longevity)!
Retails for: RM83.90, comes with a free refill on The Face Shop’s Official Website, and in all The Face Shop outlets nationwide.
– Good Coverage
– Applies so smoothly!
– Affordable, compared to other BB Cushions
– Gives an airbrushed effect to the skin
– There are only two shades available
This might not work on drier skin types because it does cling to dry patches, but if you’re combination, and not as greasy as I am, and you’re looking for a great and affordable BB Cushion, this might be the way to go! What do you think of BB Cushions, and what’s your favourite one?
