Have you ever bought a product just because you hear about it at every corner of the internet and then you come home all excited, put it on, and go ‘…meh’? I always research a product before buying it (well, usually.. impulse buy, anyone?) but some times, I still end up disappointed with products I regret buying.
So today I thought I’d do a post that showcases all the hyped-about products that I bought and tried, and loved! But with any product, just because it works for me, doesn’t mean it’ll work on everybody! But that’s what makes makeup fun, right? All the trial and error.
COLOURPOP!!!!1!!11! Sigh, those were the days where we had to “accidentally” type 1 in our exclamation marks just to show how excited we are, before zee brilliant emojis were invented! Back to the topic at hand, ColourPop. Their products were launched some time last year if I’m not mistaken and everybody and their cats rave about them, and I completely agree! I have a haul up, if you’re interested, but I picked up a bunch of new eyeshadows from them since that haul because they are freaking like metallic butter that glides on your eyelids.
I haven’t tried their blushes and highlighters, but I’ve tried their Lippie Stix, Ultra Matte Lips and their Super Shock Eyeshadows. I wear the ColourPop Lippie Stix in Brink every single day to uni, it’s like my signature shade, and I LOVE the Ultra Matte Lips for an entire day out because you can eat, drink, and yes, even kiss, all you want and it’s not going anywhere. Go crazy. The Super Shock Shadows have amazing pigmentation with a buttery texture that stays on the eyelids until you take it off. I have super oily eyelids, but these can wear for the entire day for me, even without a primer, I don’t even know how.
Urban Decay Naked Palette – They might have come up with not one, not two, not three, but four different Naked palettes, but this original one is still my ultimate love! If you’re a warm-eyeshadow-loving gal like me, this is a definite must (I feel like you already have this, don’t cha)! Even my non-makeup loving friends (I don’t know how we’re still friends, HAHA jk) say that this is like the most beautiful palette they’ve ever laid eyes on. This palette has a mix of matte and shimmery, buttery, warm goodness and it has every shade you’ll ever need for day-to-day wear.
Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide – This is another of those serum foundations, but this one is AMAZING for oily skin. This is a runny consistency and it feels like you have nothing on your skin, I’m not even kidding. Eventhough it is so lightweight, it has amazing medium to full coverage which is perfect for every day wear. I have to admit that the packaging kind of sucks though, because it’s super messy.
I got this about four to five months ago and I used to just wear this and a powder to uni every single day until recently where I’ve discovered that I actually love a pretty glow to the face. I have a whole “Glowy Skin for Oily Gals” post up showing you how you can get glowy skin, with this foundation if you’re interested!
Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette – Forgive me for the different picture, because I dropped and shattered the middle shade, along with my heart while I was trying to photograph this for this post. So I give you a picture of it with all it’s glory. This product is amazing for creating that beautiful, lit-from-within look. I use the first shade from the left, “Dim Light” all over the face to set my foundation, and then “Incandescent Light”, which is the middle shade, as a highlight on the high points of my face. The powder is very finely milled so it doesn’t look like it’s sitting ON your skin and it just makes the skin look so beautifully radiant!
Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner in Trooper – Ok, I don’t know where this has been all my life, except I kinda do. It has been an 8-hour flight away in Sydney where I couldn’t get my hands on it until the lovely Angela included it in our Australian/Asian Beauty Swap. Before this, I thought I’d found the best eyeliner pen in the Dollywink Liquid Liner Pen but boyyyy was I wrong! This Kat Von D eyeliner pen is just amazing. It’s SUPER black, it’s SUPER long lasting, and it’s SUPER-glued (not literally) to my oily eyelids until I decide to take it off. I don’t know what else there is to say about an eyeliner, so there ya go!
Benefit Porefessional Primer – I don’t actually have a full-size of this product, but I have like 5 of these sample sizes in my collection from beauty boxes, and gifts with purchases. If you have pretty large pores on your face (like me! #twinsies), give this a shot if you haven’t already! It fills in the pores on my skin, smoothing it out for better makeup application. Now I don’t think this actually makes my makeup stay in place all day, for that, I prefer the Maybelline Baby Skin (which I’m giving an honorary mention right now). But if you use a setting spray that keeps your makeup on all day, this is a great smoothing primer!
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – Yes, this looks very grossly dried out in the picture. I got this sample sized tube from the Too Faced Beauty Blogger Darlings kit and I’ve been wanting the full-sized ever since I’ve tried this but I have no idea why they don’t stock in Sephora Malaysia? They have like the display and price, but no actual product. The girl there wasn’t of much help because she just giggled at the name when I asked her -_-.
I have super sparse, short lashes and this is the best mascara I’ve tried to date for my lashes. It’s very volumising and also super lengthening, but I would say that it’s not the best curling mascara. If you want an overall great, staple mascara and if you have sparse lashes like me, then definitely check this one!
NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams – These are one of my first ever makeup products (which now when I say it, sounds quite disgusting that I still have the same tubes from then..) and they are still one of my favourite lip products in my ever growing collection (lip product hoarder here, anyone else?). The formula of these are like (and they also smell like) butter frosting! They go on the lips very smoothly and evenly, and dries to a velvet finish. They are completely matte like the liquid lipsticks we have every where now, so they aren’t as drying. They feel very comfortable and lightweight on the lips, and have a great selection of colours.
MAC Lipsticks – I don’t shop at MAC often because I’ve tried a few things from them before but they haven’t really knocked my socks off or anything (except something I tried recently, again for that glowy look!) but their lipsticks are an exception! I bought one, and then another one, and then another one, and now I have 6 of them in my collection. However, if you look at beauty guru collections on YouTube, 6 MAC lipsticks sound pretty much non-existent. All the lipsticks I’ve tried from them are super creamy and long lasting and they smell so good! My favourite formula from them is definitely their Amplified, and their Satin finishes. One of my recent purchase, Lady Danger, is my go-to matte, orange-red lipstick of the moment, and I have a review + swatches up!
So those are everything that I’m thankful the interwebs (well, and a not-very-happy friend, $$$) has brought to my life! I love makeup, I love collecting makeup, I love using makeup, I live and breathe and eat makeup (no, that’s a little exaggerated.. lol silly, I don’t eat makeup.. but I do live and breathe it.)

What are some of the products that you think are worth the hype? I’m thinking of doing a “Underrated Products that Deserve More Hype” post too, let me know if you’d be interested in that!
