Fall is just around the corner, and everyone is pulling out their dark nude lipsticks. Who am I kidding, right? This whole year was all about dark nude lipsticks. I didn’t actually see many people rocking the bright lips this summer, including myself. I’m all about the dark nude lips! Now I know the definition of a “nude lipstick” is different for everyone, but to me, it’s basically anything that doesn’t look too bright on my lips. With that said, some products in this list might be considered pink or not a nude to some people. Sorry 🙁
So just a little bit about my skin tone. I have neutral-to-yellow undertones, medium skin. I’ve never tried a MAC Foundation, so I can’t give you an exact shade, but looking at comparisons online, I’m around an NC30. If your skin tone is around that, and you’re looking for a great “nude” lipstick, read on! 🙂
This is my holy grail mauve liquid lipstick! The shade is actually a tad darker and more purple than the swatch. I tried, but my camera (sure, blame it on the camera, Jiawun) was just freaking out at all the different shades. It’s like my boyfriend going, “They all look the. exact. same.” Off-topic! Anyway, this Sephora Cream Lip Stain is one of the best liquid lipstick formulas I’ve ever tried. It’s more like a lightweight creamy formula, it dries super quickly, and doesn’t accentuate the fine lines in my lips. It gives me a gorgeous velvety finish!
Retro was my first “dark nude lipstick” and the one that started my whole obsession. Retro is a little darker than in the swatch. It’s described as a peachy-pinky brown shade, but on me it looks like a brown-red shade. Throw on (I say “throw on” like it’s so easy, huh?) some winged liner and this lipstick. That’s all you need in life. Mocha is like a lighter version of Retro, but it has more peachy tones. This one is more of an every day shade for me, and it’s just beautiful. MAC Lipsticks have gorgeous formulas – they’re creamy, pigmented and long-lasting.
I was going back and forth on whether or not I should include this in this post. Too Faced Melted Chihuahua on me is like a nude, it’s not really that dark at all on my skin tone. But, I won’t be doing another “nude lipsticks” post just because I don’t really wear nude nude lipsticks. Even though this isn’t very dark, it doesn’t give me concealer lips just because it is more of a peachy-pink toned nude. The formula is great – very creamy, long-lasting and not sticky.
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips were my first ever liquid lipstick purchase and I initially picked up Bumble and a few other colours. But I loved it so much, I picked up Beeper in another order. We’re gonna start with Bumble because this was my first liquid lipstick love. I mean, you just never forget your first love, you know? Cheeseball. Anyway, ColourPop describes Bumble as a terracotta colour. I had no freaking clue what a terracotta colour was (try saying “terracotta colour” quickly multiple times. My Asian tongue messes up the r’s after the second time lol). Apparently, it’s an orangey-brown with a hint of pink. And I fell in love with the terracotta colour. Terracotta, how fancy.
Beeper, on the other hand, has my favourite description on ColourPop ever. “Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me in this warm mid-tone taupe”. If you sang out the first part of that sentence, lets be best friends. To be completely honest, ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips are one of the most drying formulas I’ve tried. However, I still use and love them because they are also one of the most long-lasting. Eat, drink, make out, do whatever the heck you want. They’re staying on.
This one, is again, described as a freaking terracotta colour. Now I’m confused. What the heck? Is terracotta an orange-brown-pink? Or is terracotta a dusty pink? This Caked Makeup Lip Fondant in Low Key is a muted, dusty pink. It is the most beautiful pink nude ever. Not only that, Caked Makeup Lip Fondants also have a wonderful formula that is creamy, goes on really smooth and dries quickly without sucking your lips of hydration. And they smell delicious. That’s always a plus in my book!
These Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks are my latest additions. About time, right? Lolita is described as a chestnut rose on Sephora’s website. On my lips, it leans ever so slightly purple. It looks like a dusty mauve on me. This one is definitely darker (like two shades darker than the swatch) than the rest of the colours I’m showing here. So I usually only wear this when I have a full face of makeup on.
Lolita II is also described. as. a. terracotta. Now I’m convinced I’ve been living under a rock because I didn’t know what a terracotta colour was, when every brand in the world is making terracotta coloured lipsticks. This one shows up pretty true to the swatch on my lips – it’s a dark peachy nude colour. Kat Von D Liquid Lipsticks are my favourite liquid lipstick formulas. Well, I guess, they kind of tie with the Sephora Cream Lip Stains. They are super creamy, feel very comfortable on the lips, and the formula is very smooth.
So those were my favourite dark nude lipsticks! My head is still trying to figure the terracotta colour. I mean, the three dark nude lipsticks that were described as a terracotta, looks completely different. Right, makeup lovers? Don’t ask your boyfriend or brother. They’ll say no. But all the three terracottas are still really gorgeous!
What are your favourite dark nude lipsticks? Let me know in the comments, because I’m obsessed with dark nude lipsticks and my goal in life is to have a whole drawer of dark nude lipsticks. Or be able to shape-shift. Either or. 🙂
