Today’s post is my Weekly Makeup Drawer #1 Update post, and I know it’s long due! Things are slowing down a little here on Beauty Nerd By Night, and it will be for a couple more weeks 🙁 I will try to get at least one or two posts up a week but I’m just swamped with assignments and also my finals are quickly approaching. After my finals, I have a much-needed three month break where my schedule will go back to new posts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Anyway, if you haven’t read my Weekly Makeup Drawer #1 post, it’s basically a post where I picked 5 products from my makeup collection that I haven’t used in some time. In my post, I tell you guys if I used to like the product or not. In this update, we’re going to see how they work for me and if I still have the same thoughts on them. For my update posts, I also put all the products on my face so you can see how it looks like on!
So just a quick recap – I picked out 5 products, and 4 of them used to be my favourites at the time I got them, but they eventually got swapped out with newer makeup bits. I picked out the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation, the Etude House Lovely Cookie Blush in Rose Sugar Macaron, the Benefit Girl Meets Pearl Highlighter, the MUA Eyeshadow Trio in Innocence, and lastly, the NYX Butter Glosses.
This used to be in my every day makeup drawer, and for good reason! I mentioned that this was one of the best foundations for oily/combination skin, and I still stand by that. This is a powder foundation that is lightweight and not cakey. The coverage is light to medium, depending on what you use to apply it. This has a matte finish and makes the skin look super smooth and airbrushed. Even though it doesn’t completely cover up blemishes, it gives the entire face a nice, soft, smooth look. Does that make sense? Haha. Trying it after so long, I like it. But I don’t love it. But that’s only because I like more of a glowy finish nowadays. This is really great for those days where I don’t want to wear any foundation, but still want my face to look good.
MUA Eyeshadow Trio in Innocence
The next product in my weekly makeup drawer is the MUA Trio in Innocence, which I actually got from my UK/Asian beauty swap. This trio has a shimmery highlight shade, a muted bronze shade with a little bit of a green undertone, and a gorgeous copper with a blue reflect. In my eyeshadow look above, I only used the copper-blue shade all over my eyelids and the highlight shade in the inner corners. The eyeshadows are buttery, very pigmented and is easily blendable. However, I feel like it’s nothing special. Like the colours are very easily “dupe-able” except that copper blue shade. These need a primer underneath, or they will fade super easily, but I always use a primer any way. With that said, I still think it’s a great little trio for its affordable price tag though!
Me and this blusher is the epitome of a love-hate relationship. Is that even how you use the word “epitome”? I’ve always wanted to use it, so whatever HAHA. When I first got this, I absolutely hated it because it was super sheer and SO glittery. However, after using it a couple of times, I realised that the glitter was an overspray. After the top layer of glitter is all gone, the blush is a gorgeous berry with subtle gold shimmer. It gives a gorgeous glow to the skin, and lasts a long time on the face. The product itself isn’t that pigmented though, but is easily buildable. I love using this when my skin is looking a little bit dull. This gives a pretty pop of pink while adding a gorgeous golden sheen to the face.
YASSSSSSSS. Okay, usually when I see someone write “YASSSSS”, I’m just like… nope. I’m the worst. But now I finally understand. I get it. “YESSSSS” just doesn’t cut it when you discover something super exciting. This highlighter was probably my favourite product in my entire makeup collection back then. And it was also the only highlighter I owned. As my highlighter collection grew, I just sort of forgot about this *insert GASP emoji here*. I’m so happy I tried it out again because now I’ve been using it for two weeks straight. It’s such a beautiful highlighter that gives a gorgeous golden sheen to the skin. It’s lightweight, super blendable, and so stunning! If you haven’t tried this, I highly recommend giving it a go!
I used to love super glossy lips, and these were one of my favourite lip glosses ever. Thanks to Kylie Jenner (was it Kylie? Dark mauve lips, big lips, matte lips? Was it all Kylie?), matte lips are all the rage right now. And I’m a proud matte-lip lover as well. Matte lips just last so much longer and looks more “natural”. I gave these a go to uni one day, and it was quite a struggle. It was a very windy day, and wind + hair + lip gloss = not a very good combination. It wasn’t super sticky though, but you can definitely feel it on the lips, especially when you purse your lips together. The actual formula though, is amazing. It feels very lightweight, it’s very pigmented and lasts a good few hours on the lips. If you love lip glosses, I would highly recommend these. They’re so affordable too! The colour I’m wearing in the swatch above is Peach Cobbler, which is a gorgeous orange-leaning coral colour. They’re just not for me now, because I’m all about that matte lip.
So that was my update for my Weekly Makeup Drawer #1! These are supposed to be a weekly thing, but like I said, uni is killing me right now. After these crazy weeks are over, these will definitely be a weekly thing. Promise! I think it’s an amazing way to rediscover amazing makeup gems that might have been buried under your ever-growing makeup collection. Let me know if you guys do this as well, and let me know in the comments what’s in your weekly makeup drawer this week! 🙂
