Happy Hump Day, Beauty Nerds! You guys know I love myself a two-in-one product due to my nature of being a lazy girl, haha. Today we’re talking about the Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base, which is essentially a makeup base and esssence in one. Not only is it a makeup primer, it also corrects your skin tone. The Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base comes in 5 different colours, all with different benefits, but the one I’m reviewing today is the one in White!
The Catalina Geo Color Capsule Make Up Base in White is targeted towards brightening the skin tone. As you can see in the above picture, there are little white capsules (which look like styrofoam balls, right?!) suspended in the essence. The essence works as a skincare product while the white capsules give an instant brightness to the skin. Since it is an essence, it helps to hydrate the skin before makeup and give the skin a nice dewy glow.
Consistency & Smell
I use only one pump and that is enough for my entire face so this will last ages! When you pump the product out of the bottle, the white capsules are crushed into white pigment suspended in the essence. The consistency of this product is slightly thick and has a tacky finish. It isn’t very sticky, but you can definitely feel it on your skin. This also has a very strong powdery fragrance, which I typically like, but is way too strong. However, it doesn’t linger on your skin after it sets.
Does It Actually Work?
When I first got it, I was really excited to try it because I love bright, radiant skin. However, once I tried it on, as you can see in my swatch above, my skin went at least 3-4 shades lighter. It doesn’t brighten my skin tone, but it lightens it. In their defence though, it is a huge trend in Asian beauty to have fair, porcelain skin, so this might be what they’re going for. However, I’m not into the super fair skin trend because I’m quite tan and I don’t want my face to be 3-4 shades lighter than my body.
After putting on my foundation, my skin isn’t as light anymore, but it doesn’t look any different compared to if I don’t have the primer on. It doesn’t brighten my skin or make it dewy and radiant. However, I did notice that it does help my makeup stay on a little longer. Maybe the other versions of this primer, like the green colour correcting one would give much better results.
Overall, I think I would skip out on this because there are a ton of amazing primers out there. It’s a pretty cool concept, being a primer and an essence, but this just didn’t work out for me. Not only me, but a fellow BNT girl, Fräulein from Berries in the Snow, shares the same thought. Have you guys tried this, or any other capsule primers? Let me know in the comments!
