Beauty Tips Korean Celebrities Swear By

Annyeonghaseyo! Today we’re talking Beauty Tips Korean Celebrities Swear By! I’m sure you’ve noticed their gorgeous, glowy skin, and how some of them are 42 and yet look 24! You might have heard that Asian genes are responsible for women looking younger than they really are and, umm, I’m Asian and I’d like to be blessed with that please! But in all seriousness though, Koreans take their skincare very seriously, y’all. If you’ve ever Googled it, you’ll know what I mean! You’ll find 10-step skincare routines, 15 minute cleansing routines, and 5 serums-at-a-time routines.. and that’s just the more common ones! Relax, we’re not gonna go into anything crazy like that today, haha. Yes, we’re still gonna talk about the beauty tips Korean celebrities swear by, but only the ones we can actually do 😉

Double-Cleansing

This doesn’t only apply to Korean celebrities, but every. single. Asian girl swears by double-cleansing. You know how after you wash your face and there’s still foundation on the cotton pad after you apply your toner? Yep. Double-cleansing is essentially just washing your face twice. First with a cleansing water or oil to remove makeup and dirt, and then with a foaming cleanser to remove oil, dirt and bacteria. I started double-cleansing a few years ago, and it has changed the way my skin looks so much. Everyone and their mothers (literally!) should start double-cleansing because it helps remove all the dirt on the skin, so you don’t get clogged pores which result in acne.

My favourite cleansing water right now is a tie between the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Water and the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water (which is half the price of the Bioderma!). If you prefer a cleansing oil, I’d highly recommend the Banila Co Clean It Zero Sherbet Cleanser which takes off even the most waterproof makeup. They are all (very!) gentle cleansers that are effective at removing makeup. The foaming cleanser that I’m currently using (and loving!) is the Paula’s Choice RESIST Perfectly Balanced Cleanser (full review here).

3-Second Rule

Now I won’t lie.. this one is pretty near to crossing the crazy line! I personally haven’t tried this, but Ha Ji-Won swears by this tip, so it must be pretty darn good right? I mean, she looks nowhere near 38! The 3-Second Rule is basically never letting your skin go product-less for more than 3 seconds. Meaning you have to get product on your face within 3 seconds after cleansing your face. The reason for this is to never let your skin get dehydrated. Yes, sounds crazy and it must be impossible to get your toner on in 3 seconds right? Ha Ji-Won suggests keeping a hydrating beauty mist in your shower (or where ever you wash your face). This is her secret to keeping her skin hydrated, elastic, and looking young.

My favourite hydrating beauty mists of the moment are the Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray and the Cosrx Centella Water Alcohol-free Toner. If you want to try a cool, semi-DIY beauty mist, check out the First Cosmetics Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist (review here). If you’re not much of a beauty mist gal, Ha Ji-Won has her own beauty product, the J.One Jelly Pack, which she applies straight after cleansing her face (within 3 seconds to be exact!). It’s a multitasking product – a primer and moisturiser in one, with hydrating and intense firming properties.

The ‘Tok Tok’ Technique

The ‘tok tok’ technique is a much cuter way of saying ‘patting your skincare in’. This is one of the best beauty tips Korean celebrities swear by – patting in your skincare instead of sweeping/rubbing it in. The ‘tok tok’ gets its name from the sound it makes when you (gently!) pat your skin – try it haha! Patting your skincare into your skin enhances absorption of the product. This technique works especially well for serums, beauty oils, essences, and even moisturiser.

Never Skip Sunscreen. Ever.

Korean celebrities never skip sunscreen. Ever. Ever, ever, ever. This is definitely something I’m guilty of, but I’ve been doing better! I haven’t skipped sunscreen in two months now. It takes one extra step, but protects your skin from premature aging, pigmentation and skin cancer.

I’ve been loving the Anthelios 60 Ultra Light Sunscreen Fluid for Face. It’s super lightweight and doesn’t feel greasy on the skin. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel tacky.

Patience is a Virtue

I had the pleasure of meeting model and actress Lee Sung Kyung during a Laneige event last year. She let us in on her super simple secret that creates flawless makeup application that lasts all day. If you find your foundation sliding off your face within an hour of applying it, you need to try this! After patting in your moisturiser and sunscreen, give it a couple of minutes to absorb. With your fingers, gently press into your skin. If it still feels damp and tacky, the product hasn’t fully absorbed yet. Wait until the product is fully absorbed before applying your foundation!

Sleeping Mask Please!

Sleeping masks are one of the most important steps in a Korean skincare routine, even in supermodel and actress Song Hye-Kyo‘s routine. Sleeping masks work their magic while you sleep at night, leaving you with smooth, hydrated skin when you wake up. A good sleeping mask applied at night can replace your primer the next morning!

The sleeping masks that I personally swear by are (get ready… it’s gonna be a long list!) the Cosrx Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Mask. This is amazing if your skin is feeling particularly dry that day. Put it on, and you’ll wake up to baby smooth skin! I also love the Etude House Moistfull Collagen Sleeping Pack for intense hydration. These two are amazing at hydrating and smoothing the skin, but are definitely thick and tacky. If you like something more lightweight, you can also check out the L’Oreal Hydrafresh Genius Water-Bursting Mask!

Those are some of the best beauty tips Korean celebrities swear by! If you want to get radiant, youthful-looking skin, try out these simple (except one that’s pretty crazy. yes, i’m looking at you, 3 second rule) tips. Also, beautiful skin doesn’t just start and end with what you put on the outside, it also depends majorly on what you put inside (sounded less wrong in my head)! So drink more water and eat your veggies, kids! hehe.

Living in a hot, humid country, I tend to never wear sunscreen because it’s too heavy underneath all my makeup 🙁

    • It really is! Korean beauty routines are usually intense, haha! But seems to be working well since they all have super gorgeous skin! Moisturisers with sunscreen are amazing but the ones I’ve tried can be a little too heavy on my oily skin. Do you have any product recommendations? xx
