Happy Hump Day, friends – we’re almost to the weekend!

Ahhh… Eyebrow pencils. I don’t know how I went through the first 18 years of my life without you. We’ve known each other for a mere 3 years but I’m already head over heels in love with you… to the point where I never leave my house without a part of you on my face.

Okay.. getting a lil weird there.

But in all seriousness though, if I don’t have my eyebrows done, I look like I have none from far away haha! When I first started doing my eyebrows, I used pencils, and then powders, and back to pencils.. and now, I use whatever product gives me the look I’m going for.

For the past 3 months, I’ve been going for eyebrow pencils, that is, until I found my holy grail eyebrow CUSHION (sounds gimmicky, I know, but I promise you it’s not). But that’s not what we’ll be talking about today, lol. Today, we’re talking about the eyebrow pencils I’ve been using before I found that eyebrow cushion, and they are the Etude House Drawing Eye Brow. Korean beauty products have the weirdest names, don’t they?

I have the Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils in #02 Gray Brown and #05 Gray. My natural hair is a dark brown (almost black) colour but it leans more toward the ashy side. Most eyebrow pencils tend to run warm so I’m glad these have grey-browns and greys available.

Also, I personally like my brows to be more on the natural side. I love the bold, strong brow trend but it just doesn’t look good on me 🙁 A super bold brow kind of triples my already resting bitch face (I’m not even kidding about this! My best friend told me that she was too afraid to talk to me during our orientation day at university because I looked pissed off haha). So I don’t tend to go for anything too dark when it comes to my eyebrows.

Etude House Drawing Eye Brow

From the above picture, #02 Gray Brown is swatched on the left, and #05 Gray is on the right.

Yep, I know, that is not grey. If anything, the #05 Gray shade looks like it runs a bit yellow! However, when I put it on my brows, it actually does look grey. But not a very flattering grey on me though, because it is a very light grey whereas I have pretty dark hair.

#02 Gray Brown, on the other hand, is the perfect shade for my eyebrows! It’s not too light to the point where it looks like I don’t have anything on my brows, but it’s not too dark or harsh either.

As you can see from the swatches above, these Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils are pretty hard pencils. They don’t come out super creamy, which is good for an eyebrow pencil. I always prefer a harder eyebrow pencil so I can build it up to my desired intensity. If it’s too soft and creamy, it gives me block brows too quickly (I’m looking at you, Wet N Wild eyebrow pencil, pftttt).

Etude House Drawing Eye Brow

These Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils also come with a spoolie on the other end. This really helps to smooth out the edges and blend the product out to reduce any harsh lines. The eyebrow pencil + this spoolie gives me the perfect “natural-look” I so desire!

BUT!

Even though the colour is a perfect match for my eyebrows, I avoid these Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils as much as I can.

Why?

They disappear 3 hours into the day. 3 hours! That’s not long enough. I don’t know how many times I’ve spent 428 hours making my brows look perfect, only to have my friends say “something looks different about you” when they see me 3 hours later in class.

What do they mean by “something”, you ask?

Well, according to one of my very observant guy friends, “your eyebrows have disappeared”.

So… bottom line is:

There are definitely better eyebrow products out there, like my trusty Laneige Eyebrow Cushion-Cara! But if you’re looking for something affordable, these might still be a good choice if you don’t mind touching up your eyebrows often. Also, if you’re a fan of natural-looking brows, these are a really good option! They would work better if you apply a heavy-duty brow gel on top to set them in place.

What’s your current favourite eyebrow product? Let me know in the comments! 🙂

*I chose this product as part of my monthly review collaboration with Jolse. Each month, I pick out a couple of things to try and share with you. All opinions are 100% honest and my own. I would only recommend things that I really love! You can read my full disclosure here.

  • lalalalovelylife

I have so long searched for a dark brown eye brow pencil. Exactly what I needed!

  • I have really got to get on my brow game. I might check out that other one you suggested…thanks!

  • Tami

Honestly, I’m horrible at doing my brows. I need to improve! I’ll definitely check out that Laneige brand though. 🙂

  • I’ve never tried anything like this but I’m seeing eyebrow things everywhere!

  • Trecee Hutchinson

It sucks that they only last 3 hrs, that’s totally unacceptable for a brow pencil

  • I actually totally love the Aqualash brow food powder to cream product. It’s long-lasting and it has great color.

  • I have never tried this product, but it sucks it only lasts a few hours. I need to try their brow food powder!

  • I just switched from Joie to a drug-store product. I’m hoping that the result will be the same but save me some $$$ in the long run!

    Tori

  • Allison Ellzey

I don’t really ever do my eyebrows except to fill them in sometimes!

  • I just fill mine in from time to time with eyeshadow, but shame these don’t last very long! They sound great otherwise!

  • Anna Hubbard

My eyebrows are very important to me, so I have to fill them in every day – even if that’s the ONLY makeup I use that day. I use Revlon Colorstay brow pencil and it works AMAZINGLY

  • Nicole Flint

If I don’t have anything else on, my brows have to be filled in! I love Anastasia’s brow products.

  • I got into a bad habit of pulling out my eyebrows when I was studying/stressed in college, so I had to start implementing an eyebrow pencil! I’ve recently been converted to Benefits’ Brow Zing and I love it. It encourages me *not* to touch my eyebrows, but even if I do, it has a 12 hour all day wear so it stays on pretty solid throughout the day! I’ll have to check out your recommended item sometime. 🙂

  • I’ve been looking for a new brow pencil!

  • I’m obsessed with doing my eyebrows! I haven’t heard this before, but I’ll check it out!

  • Yeah, disappearing in 3 hours is not okay! Thanks for the review.

  • I literally just bought my first eyebrow product this weekend and I am so excited to start filling them in. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long!

  • I don’t do my eyebrows but I always love how they look when a makeup artist does them for me. You’re inspiring me to learn myself (:

  • Wow, it’s not okay for this to last only three hours. Great review!

  • Yes I can’t agree more on the weird name part! I totally cannot brain the product names sometime, like “My Dear Lip Talk”? Whattt?

Nahhh 3 hours is totally a no-no, nice review!

  • thesophiadiaries

I can’t really do asian brow products xD they never do enough for me xD

  • Thats a bummer they don’t last any longer than 3 hours… and yes, some K beauty items have the funniest names!

  • Sydney Power

I really like the brands of etude house. They have an amazing makeup products. And I will definitely check those eyebrow drawing.

  • Oh no, only 3 hours!? That would be a nightmare, I need my stuff to last at least 12 for when I’m flying and traveling.

I always hear raves about Etude but it’s equally important to see an honest review. Thanks for the insight, especially because it’s a brow product. Those are the most important ones I keep an eye out for!
