Happy Hump Day, friends – we’re almost to the weekend!
Ahhh… Eyebrow pencils. I don’t know how I went through the first 18 years of my life without you. We’ve known each other for a mere 3 years but I’m already head over heels in love with you… to the point where I never leave my house without a part of you on my face.
Okay.. getting a lil weird there.
But in all seriousness though, if I don’t have my eyebrows done, I look like I have none from far away haha! When I first started doing my eyebrows, I used pencils, and then powders, and back to pencils.. and now, I use whatever product gives me the look I’m going for.
For the past 3 months, I’ve been going for eyebrow pencils, that is, until I found my holy grail eyebrow CUSHION (sounds gimmicky, I know, but I promise you it’s not). But that’s not what we’ll be talking about today, lol. Today, we’re talking about the eyebrow pencils I’ve been using before I found that eyebrow cushion, and they are the Etude House Drawing Eye Brow. Korean beauty products have the weirdest names, don’t they?
7 Colours Available:
#01 Black Brown, #02 Gray Brown, #03 Brown, #04 Dark Gray, #05 Gray, #06 Black, #07 Light Brown
Where to Buy:
I have the Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils in #02 Gray Brown and #05 Gray. My natural hair is a dark brown (almost black) colour but it leans more toward the ashy side. Most eyebrow pencils tend to run warm so I’m glad these have grey-browns and greys available.
Also, I personally like my brows to be more on the natural side. I love the bold, strong brow trend but it just doesn’t look good on me 🙁 A super bold brow kind of triples my already resting bitch face (I’m not even kidding about this! My best friend told me that she was too afraid to talk to me during our orientation day at university because I looked pissed off haha). So I don’t tend to go for anything too dark when it comes to my eyebrows.
From the above picture, #02 Gray Brown is swatched on the left, and #05 Gray is on the right.
Yep, I know, that is not grey. If anything, the #05 Gray shade looks like it runs a bit yellow! However, when I put it on my brows, it actually does look grey. But not a very flattering grey on me though, because it is a very light grey whereas I have pretty dark hair.
#02 Gray Brown, on the other hand, is the perfect shade for my eyebrows! It’s not too light to the point where it looks like I don’t have anything on my brows, but it’s not too dark or harsh either.
As you can see from the swatches above, these Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils are pretty hard pencils. They don’t come out super creamy, which is good for an eyebrow pencil. I always prefer a harder eyebrow pencil so I can build it up to my desired intensity. If it’s too soft and creamy, it gives me block brows too quickly (I’m looking at you, Wet N Wild eyebrow pencil, pftttt).
These Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils also come with a spoolie on the other end. This really helps to smooth out the edges and blend the product out to reduce any harsh lines. The eyebrow pencil + this spoolie gives me the perfect “natural-look” I so desire!
Even though the colour is a perfect match for my eyebrows, I avoid these Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pencils as much as I can.
They disappear 3 hours into the day. 3 hours! That’s not long enough. I don’t know how many times I’ve spent 428 hours making my brows look perfect, only to have my friends say “something looks different about you” when they see me 3 hours later in class.
What do they mean by “something”, you ask?
Well, according to one of my very observant guy friends, “your eyebrows have disappeared”.
So… bottom line is:
There are definitely better eyebrow products out there, like my trusty Laneige Eyebrow Cushion-Cara! But if you’re looking for something affordable, these might still be a good choice if you don’t mind touching up your eyebrows often. Also, if you’re a fan of natural-looking brows, these are a really good option! They would work better if you apply a heavy-duty brow gel on top to set them in place.
What’s your current favourite eyebrow product? Let me know in the comments! 🙂
