How has fall weather been treating you? Is it nice and cool out yet? I love fall everything – the weather, the fashion, and I especially love the darker, dusty shades for makeup! Even though Malaysia has summer weather all year round, we usually get gloomier days out around this time of the year. But apparently, not this year! It has been extra hot this past couple of days, which means no comfy fall sweaters for me just yet! Because of this heat, I’ve been living in minimal, lightweight makeup but I didn’t let that stop me from wearing all the darker, dusty shades of makeup…
…which brings me to today’s blog post: we’re talking about the Althea Dried Rose Box, a carefully curated beauty box filled with Korean beauty products with colours that are perfect for fall. I’ll be showing you everything in the Althea Dried Rose Box including reviews of each of the individual products.
But first… what is the Althea Beauty Box?
There are two types of Althea Beauty Boxes – the Althea Boxes and the Trendy Boxes. Althea Boxes have products in them that are based on a specific theme, like this “Dried Rose” themed box. Trendy Boxes are packed with products that can be used to create hot Korean beauty trends. All Althea Boxes are filled with 5-12 full-sized Korean beauty products and buying the box usually saves you over 60% compared to buying the products individually. They also release new Althea Boxes 2-3 times a month.
But do you know what the best part is?
They’re NOT a subscription service so you don’t have to commit to monthly boxes. You can buy a box only if you’re interested in the products that are included. Sounds cool, right? The only downside to the Althea Boxes is that they are super limited so they sell out very quickly! As I’m writing this, the Dried Rose Box is already sold out (you can still buy the individual products if you’re interested) but they have a “Lovely Dewy Box” (which sounds amazing!) that is available at the time I’m writing this. To see which Althea Boxes they currently have (and to see past boxes), you can check them out here.
The Althea Dried Rose Box is described as a “Dusty Pink Beauty Bouquet” and I couldn’t agree more! This box is fall-themed, so almost everything has that dusty rose vibe to it. This box contains all you need to create a gorgeous, fall makeup look – the Bareblanc Moisture Lock Foundation for a fresh base, the A. Concept Water Blusher in Kiss Me for your cheeks, the Etude House Play Color Eyes Wine Party Eyeshadow Palette for a gorgeous red/burgundy-toned eyeshadow look, the Aritaum Satin Pencil Lip Lacquer in Dry Bouquet for the perfect dusty rose lip colour, and the With Shyan Nail Lacquer in Hi Autumn to complete your look with a perfect fall manicure. In this box, you will also receive a bonus sample of the Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Care Sample Kit, which comes with a mini cleanser & toner, and some cotton pads. You get all these products for $26.50, which I think is such a steal!
Bareblanc Moisture Lock Foundation in #23
I have to be completely honest.. I’m over trying out new cushion foundations because I have not found one that is better than my trusty LANEIGE BB Cushion. So when I first saw this, my initial thought was… not again. When I opened it up though, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it’s actually a liquid foundation in a compact. I know this isn’t a new concept, but I’ve never tried anything like this before. This is in shade #23, which is around NC25-30. The shade number is standard in most Korean foundations (if you’re #23 in a foundation from brand A, you’re likely to be #23 in a foundation from brand B as well).
To dispense the product, you press down on the white part of the compact. I like to do two full pumps of this for my entire face. The formula is creamy and smoothes onto the skin very easily. The coverage is amazing! If you use the puff included, you can get a medium coverage or build it up to a full coverage. I prefer using my beautyblender to apply this (and most of my other foundations) though because it gives a fresh, natural finish. This foundation gives a dewy, healthy glow to the skin. If you have oily skin like me, you’ll definitely need to set it with a powder.
This foundation looks really flawless on the skin and looks like actual skin (not in the Leatherface sort of way, lol), but it doesn’t sit well on my nose. I find that I have to really press the product into the skin to prevent it from settling in any pores and accentuating texture (like blackheads, whiteheads, dry skin, etc). This is why I like to use my beautyblender to apply this as opposed to the puff because it’s much softer and blends the foundation into my skin better. With a beautyblender, the foundation doesn’t cling to any texture on my skin. It takes a little more time to work with this, but the end result is gorgeous!
Can we take a moment to appreciate that packaging? I love anything that’s packaged in frosted glass – makes it feel so luxurious! When I first opened it, I thought it was a hot pink nail polish which confused me a little, since it’s a fall box and hot pink isn’t normally associated with fall. Then I realised it was a blush, had to try it out, and fell head over heels for it!
The brush it comes with makes it really easy to apply the blush. I put 3 dots on my cheeks and blend it out with my fingers or a beautyblender. Depending on how intense you like your blush, you can layer the product as you wish. The thing I love most about this product is that it doesn’t dry too quickly so you have time to blend (I’m looking at you, Benetint!). Also, even though this is a hot pink in the bottle, it blends out into a very natural looking blush. It has a translucent finish, which is my favourite when it comes to blush! Best of all? It’s super long-lasting! I can get around a 5-6 hour wear before it’s gone.
I freaking love this product! If you like a lightweight, easily blendable, long-lasting blush, you need to try this!
When I saw that this palette was in the box, I knew I needed it! Also, this palette by itself costs $24.70, which is almost the price of the whole box!) I loved their Play Color Eyes Juice Bar palette, but I just wasn’t that sold on the peach-orange tones, but this?? The gorgeous, warm, red-burgundy shades? This is straight up my alley! There is a good mix of mattes and shimmers of warm browns, bronzes, and burgundy shades. I love that there are highlight shades and a pigmented, dark shade to smoke out your look. Because of this, it’s so versatile and you can create a ton of different looks. You can go with a natural, every day makeup look, or a smokey night out look!
The one problem I always have with Korean beauty eyeshadows is that they usually lack in pigmentation, but not this palette! The eyeshadows in this palette are all super buttery and pigmented. The formulas of all the shades in this palette are very consistent. There isn’t one that is powdery or lacks in pigmentation – even the mattes!
Not only that, they are also incredibly easy to blend out and they last very well on the lids. I have very oily eyelids that, without a primer, eyeshadows slide off of in an hour. To put this through the test, I applied my eyeshadows as normal but without a primer, went about my day in the scorching heat, and came back 6 hours later to find my eyeshadows pretty much how I applied it. There were no eyeshadows that transferred to my bottom lids and the fading was very minimal. With a primer, it lasts the entire day until I decide to remove it at the end of the day. I’m so in love with this palette!
This is a mousse-type liquid lipstick that has a very thin tip (3mm) so you can get very precise while lining your lips. I use the tip to line my lips and then lay the applicator flat against my lips to fill them in. I love this nifty little applicator, it’s so easy to use! This shade is called Dry Bouquet, which I kind of expected to be a dusty pink colour, but it’s actually quite red. I would describe it as a dusty red colour, if there is such a thing haha. It’s a little too bold for my personal preference for day to day wear, but blotting it with a piece of tissue gives a gorgeous stain to the lips.
The formula of this lip lacquer is also impeccable! This is infused with shea butter and jojoba oil, so it’s very creamy and glides effortlessly onto the lips. The finish of this is really beautiful – it’s a semi-matte that gives a velvety look to the lips. It doesn’t accentuate fine lines, which I think is super hard to find in lip products, especially ones that are supposed to be matte. This product has a candy scent to it which is giving me childhood nostalgia, but I can’t quite figure out what it smells like!
Guys.. I have a confession to make. I was looking up information about this nail polish on the Althea website and I just added a bunch of shades to my cart, waiting to check out. This nail polish is freaking fabulous and I was shocked (in a good way!) to find out that it’s only $3.50 a pop! There is a bunch of shades, so if you’re looking for new nail polishes to try out.. you know where to go 😉
If you were wondering what nail polish I’m wearing in the pictures above, this is the one! Hi Autumn is a dusty pink colour. The formula is super creamy and applies like a dream! The brush is also perfect – the size is just right to get a fast, neat application. In the pictures above, I have two coats of this nail polish, but you can definitely get away with just one! Also, I applied this in a hurry so I could include it in the pictures so I didn’t put on a top coat. Even without a top coat, this lasted me a full week before chipping. 7 days without chipping is crazy good! Seriously, at $3.50, this nail polish has become my latest obsession and I need to get more shades!
Bonus: Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Care Sample Kit
I’ve heard the hype surrounding this Innisfree Jeju Volcanic Pore Care range, but I’ve never tried it out for myself. I have pores the size of the moon though, so I’m not sure why I haven’t checked it out. I’m glad they included this little kit in this Dried Rose Box though, because I freaking love this toner! The cleansing foam is so-so, it’s not drying and it cleans, but there’s nothing really special about it. The toner, on the other hand, is great! I apply it with the cotton pads they’ve included in this kit, which has a textured side and a normal side. The toner feels really cooling on the skin and I can kind of feel a sliiiiight tingling when I apply it over areas with pores (especially my nose!). I feel like it’s actually working! Now I can’t say for sure if it helped with my pores or not because I only got a few uses out of this sample size, but I really want to purchase it now!
So those were everything in the Althea Dried Rose Box, and it was one amazing box! I really love the Althea boxes because you can try out so many things (full-sized!), and they’re so affordable and such a great deal too! The retail price of all the individual items in this box runs about $95, but this box was only $26.50. They have a ton of different boxes, and they release 2-3 boxes every month. However, they sell out soooo quickly, so make sure you keep an eye out on Althea’s website so you don’t miss out on a box that you want!
