Hi, friends! In today’s post, we’ll be talking about the cutest skincare product (yep, it’s a skincare product. Did you just do a double take on the picture above? ;)) I own – the Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack.
Who’s a huge fan of bubble tea? *raises both hands* Seriously, I have a crazy obsession with tea drinks. I love bubble tea, but my favourite has to be a plain old milk tea, especially from this place called Gong Cha. No, this post isn’t sponsored by Gong Cha. Heck, this post isn’t even about tea lol. But they have the best tea drinks ever! I just looked it up online, and if you’re from the US, near San Fran, San Jose or Sacramento, you need to try Gong Cha. Get a regular milk tea topped with white pearls (waaayyy better than black pearls, or “boba”) – you won’t regret it, I promise!
Anyway, back to the topic at hand… the Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack. If this looks or sounds super familiar to you, you might have seen it in my “The 16 Best Korean Beauty Products” post.
Sleeping packs (or sleeping masks) are basically leave-on face masks that you apply before going to bed. You don’t have to remove them, they just wash off with your regular morning cleansing routine! Sleeping packs deeply nourishes your skin while protecting it from the harsh AC while you sleep. Most sleeping packs have the texture of a thick moisturiser, and is somewhat sticky (some more so than others). I try to avoid sticky sleeping masks because all my hair just sticks on my face and that itches me like crazy haha.
The Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack comes in 3 “flavours”: Black Tea (which is this one!), Strawberry Tea, and Green Tea. The one I tried and included in the Best Korean Beauty Products post is the Strawberry Tea one. I really liked the Strawberry one because it felt fresh and lightweight, and it made my skin look bright and feel smooth in the morning. So of course, I needed to try the Black Tea one, seeing as it’s my favourite milk tea drink!

Where to Buy:
Let’s start with the packaging – I’m in love with the super adorable packaging that looks just like an actual bubble tea! It comes with a tiny spatula which is attached at the back, making it look like a straw (genius!). I really like that they included a spatula because I’m not a huge fan of sticking my finger into my skincare products. This Black Tea one is the colour of a yummy milk tea and you can see that there is a ton of boba sitting at the bottom. So of course, curious me had to try to scoop one out just to see if you could lol!
Yes, you can!
I was literally jumping with joy when I scooped the “boba” out in one piece. But curious me didn’t stop there. I wanted to see if it was the actual product that you can use or if it was just for decoration so I squashed it up on the back of my hand. It got crushed pretty easily, but it’s definitely not the same consistency of the product. So that experiment was a big fail – I still didn’t know what it’s for. Until I read Jolse’s description on how to use the product:
“Use the small spoon that is included and apply some mask, along with 1-2 tapioca pearls (boba) onto the palm. Gently flatten the tapioca pearls with the spoon and mix in with the mask. Apply it evenly on the skin and leave it on overnight.”
This Etude Houe Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack in Black Tea has a slight tea with a little bit of a sweet vanilla scent. You can definitely smell it while you’re applying the sleeping mask, but it doesn’t linger. I don’t think the scent will throw you off even if you don’t typically like scented products.
The texture of this Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack is definitely on the thinner side of the spectrum when it comes to sleeping masks. Because of this, it doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on the skin, and it’s definitely one of the less sticky sleeping masks I’ve tried. It leaves a very slight tacky layer on the skin, which is what sleeping masks do to deeply moisturise your skin while protecting the skin from the harsh AC at night. Because it’s not sticky, my hair doesn’t stick to my face while I sleep, which I love because I toss and turn too much in my sleep. I also had a sleep-walking episode when I was about 7 years old. I walked all the way down my curved stairs without falling. While sleeping. I’ve fallen down those same stairs while walking wide awake lol.
Back to the topic at hand… I use this two to three times a week. It’s usually advisable not to use sleeping masks every day as it can over-nourish your skin, leading to oiliness and breakouts. And I don’t need any more of either of those, haha. I just use the sleeping mask and I don’t mix it with the “boba”, mainly because I’m too lazy, but also because I can’t bear to dip my whole spatula into the product because it ews me. Yep, it ews me. I can’t think of the verb right now, so we’re gonna go with ews haha. When I wash this sleeping mask off in the morning, my skin feels soft and hydrated. I find that that’s the case with most sleeping masks I’ve tried.
Cute packaging (because this is necessary)
Not as sticky as other sleeping masks
Hydrates and brightens the skin
Extra step of mixing the boba with the mask
All in all, I don’t think this Etude House Bubble Tea Sleeping Pack does anything extraordinary that other sleeping masks don’t do. But I do prefer this to the other sleeping masks just because it’s less sticky and it smells good. The packaging is a plus too! At the $9-14 price range, it is also much more affordable compared to the other sleeping masks out there.
Ok… I’m going to get myself a cup of milk tea now. See ya!
