TGIF! I’ve been feeling a little under the weather lately and I’m almost certain it’s because of the crazy weather here. One minute it’s 35 degrees Celcius and the next, it’s raining cats and dogs! I haven’t heard that expression since I learnt it in like 3rd grade or something. That is, until a couple of days ago when my boyfriend casually said it on the phone, and I couldn’t stop laughing for a solid minute. Oh, oh, something really cute about him (I’m being braggy and all proud, heh 😛) – he’s a native French speaker (I knowwwww 😉), and he pronounces words like “human” and “huge” weird cutely. He either pronounces them with a French silent h, or he overcompensates and goes “hhhh-uge” and “hhhh-uman”. 😛 Trop mignon! That was not the point of today’s post haha! Getting back to today’s topic… with me feeling sick because of the weather recently, I thought I’d do a post all about the Best Makeup for Sick Days!
When I’m sick and don’t have anywhere to be, I usually skip out on the makeup and just let my skin breathe. However, when I’m sick but still have to look presentable for work or if I just want to look a little bit less sick, I opt for a lightweight and fresh makeup look. I tend to stay away from heavy-feeling products like foundations, powder, liquid lipsticks, etc.
Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF15/PA++ ($39.40/50ml)
This is a mini size that came in my Murad Blemish Control Kit, but you get 50ml in the full-sized tube. I fell in love with this product the very first day I tried it out. I have combination skin and I usually start looking super shiny like a disco ball 3 or so hours into the day even with foundation and powder. This is freaking magic in a bottle! It gave my skin a soft matte finish and kept it shine-free for 8 hours. When I’m sick (or just every day, really), it’s nice to not have to worry about looking or feeling greasy. If you have oily skin, I highly, highly recommend trying this stuff out! If you have dry skin, skip out on this step!
VDL Lumilayer Primer ($15/30ml)
Yes, after taking the shine off our face with the Murad Oil-Control Mattifier, we’re putting the glow back on our face. Sounds weird, I know, but us oily skin gals will argue that greasy shine and glowy is not the same thing! On sick days, I skip out on foundation so I wear this primer alone. This primer contains luminous violet pigments which help to brighten your skin and give it a 3D glow effect. This is one of my favourite primers of all time! When I’m sick, I want to not look sick so I use this for a radiant glow that makes my skin (and me!) look healthy. The primer itself doesn’t feel greasy and is very lightweight.
the SAEM Cover Perfection Tip Concealer SPF28/PA++ ($5.70)
In my previous post, I’ve mentioned how this is the only concealer that will brighten my undereye area and cover my dark circles. The coverage of this concealer is amazing and it covers everything from redness to dark circles to blemishes, while not looking overly done or cakey. It’s very creamy but doesn’t crease or separate. When I’m sick, I like bringing this concealer in my purse because… blowing my nose every 10 minutes makes my nose area red and in need of a little concealing very often.
Laneige Eyebrow Cushion-cara ($23)
I’ve talked about this eyebrow cushion before and I still stand by everything I say. It comes with a double-sided brush (an angled brush and a spoolie) for easy application. Since it is a cushion, the actual product is a liquid and glides on the eyebrows very easily. It dries to a powder finish so it looks very natural. I like to use the angled brush to fill in my eyebrows and then go in with the spoolie to get rid of any harshness. The finish makes it look like you have naturally gorgeous, full brows and it lasts the entire day. Also, it doesn’t budge, so you won’t accidentally rub off your eyebrow (been there, done that!) halfway through the day.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Washable Mascara ($6.70)
When I’m sick, I definitely do not want to spend 2319 hours putting on eyeshadow or eyeliner, so I go with a trusty mascara to open up my eyes! This mascara has been my favourite for quite some time now. This is my third tube and I accidentally got the waterproof one. I prefer the normal one just because this waterproof one is a pain to remove. This mascara adds length and volume, and gives the lashes a full-fan effect. Also, if you have super stubborn stick straight lashes like I do (#asianproblems), this is the only mascara that keeps my curl!
MAC Blush in Gingerly ($24)
My face tends to look a little more pale when I’m sick so I like to add a some warmth and colour back into my cheeks. Since I have warm undertones, I like to stick to a blush that is a matte, warm peach colour so it looks like a natural, healthy flush. I really like MAC blushes in general, the ones I’ve tried are all really good quality – they’re pigmented, long-lasting and blend out easily.
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade ($34)
I’m a huge fan of the MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes, especially the ones that can be used as highlighters. When I want a natural looking radiant glow, I opt for the shade Lightscapade. On the MAC website, it’s described as a “candlelit beige with multidimensional shimmer”, which is spot on! It definitely looks very “candlelit”, and it catches the light so beautifully, giving your skin a soft, healthy glow.
Physicians Formula Matchmaker pH Powered Lip Gloss – Pink ($8.80)
I avoid the super drying liquid lipsticks when I’m feeling bleh and go for something more moisturising and healthy-looking. This lip gloss has a fluorescein based dye that senses the pH level of your skin, and adjusts accordingly to give you a personalised shade in 60 seconds. This turns into more of a medium pink on my lips and it looks gorgeous! The gloss itself has a slight tackiness which makes it last throughout the day, but it’s not super sticky to the point where all your hair sticks to it. It also stains the lips a little bit so even as the gloss wears off, your lips will still have a natural pink colour. Also, this lip gloss has a freaking LED light in it, so you can apply it where ever, even if it’s dark!
So those are, in my opinion, the Best Makeup for Sick Days! These are my go-to, fail-proof makeup products for when I’m feeling a little under the weather and want to look more awake and healthy. I know this is a lot of makeup for some, but you can cater it to whatever you’re comfortable with. I hope you found this post helpful! Thanks for reading 🙂
