Mon Cheri Lumiere Complexion Pore Refiner & Petale CC Cover

Hello, friends! You might have noticed that I took a break for quite a bit. It was a crazy semester at uni, but truth be told, I just really need to get my shit together and get organised. In other news, I have an exciting announcement! My sister, Sockwun, who blogs over at ExtraExtravagant, will be joining the Beauty Nerd By Night family soon! We both blog about beauty so we thought it’d be a great idea to run this blog together so that we can share reviews on products that are targeted for different skin types (and skin tones!). ¬†She’ll be posting her first review very soon so that’s exciting! ūüôā Anyway, back to today’s blog post: a review of the¬†Mon Cheri Lumiere Complexion & Pore Refiner¬†Instant Pore Eraser¬†and the¬†Mon Cheri Petale CC Cover.

Mon Cheri reached out to me a month or two back and asked if I would like to try out their¬†Mon Cheri Lumiere Complexion & Pore Refiner Instant Pore Eraser¬†and also their¬†Petale CC Cover.¬†I immediately said yes because an instant pore eraser sounds amazing (and also too good to be true if I’m honest, so I had to try it out for myself)! I’m also always looking for a good base, and Mon Cheri has such pretty packaging!

Mon Cheri Lumiere Complexion & Pore Refiner Instant Pore Eraser (RM110/30ml)

    Active Ingredients

The Lumiere Complexion & Pore Refiner has the marine active ingredient, Laminaria Ochroleuca Extract, which helps protect the skin with its anti photo-aging, anti-wrinkle and anti-inflammatory properties. Not only that, this main ingredient also helps to keep the skin moisturised and protects it against daily pollution. The other active ingredients work together to brighten skin with its antioxidant and anti-inflammation properties that will help to enhance skin luminosity and radiance. Last but not least, the active ingredients provide photo-protection to prevent skin cell damage from harmful UV rays.

Can we just take some time and appreciate this packaging? The tube is super sleek with some floral designs, and a rose gold cap. But hold on! The cap is not just any cap, though!¬†You don’t have to remove the cap, it has a ‘twist-to-activate’ cap and you just squeeze out the desired amount. I love this little feature because it keeps the product inside clean and last longer because air doesn’t get into it. This primer can be worn under makeup, or worn alone for a soft, velvety finish.

The primer itself has a thick, silicone-y texture, much like the Benefit Porefessional. When you apply it, it goes on a little bit oily feeling, but it smooths out into a powdery texture in a couple of seconds. This Mon Cheri Instant Pore Eraser goes on smoothly and blends out well without clinging to any dry parts of my face (which is a problem I find with the Benefit Porefessional).

    Does it Work?

As for the pore erasing properties, this is THE BEST PORE ERASER I’VE EVER TRIED! I have very noticeable pores on and around my nose area (it’s like the freaking moon up close). This helps to fill in my pores and creates a smooth base for my makeup. After applying this, it doesn’t just make my skin look smoother, but feel much softer too. I will say that it definitely doesn’t make my pores disappear completely, but it is a HUGE improvement. On days where I’m not feeling up to wearing foundation, I just apply this all over my face. It gives a gorgeous velvety, soft finish and absorbs any excess oil.

Mon Cheri Petale CC Cover (RM135)

This Petale CC Cover is a “cushion” CC cream that is supposed to give you a soft, velvety finish. If you guys haven’t noticed, I am obsessed with cushions¬†everything. I think they’re so convenient and so easy to carry around. My only problem with cushions is that they dry out way too quickly. This compact has an air-tight stopper that keeps it from drying out. Not only that, the actual “cushion” is a mesh which works really well to dispense just the right amount of product onto the puff. The air puff in this Petale CC Cover works well to apply and blend the product, so you don’t have to use a beautyblender.

    Shade, Coverage & Finish

The Mon Cheri Petale CC Cream is available in five colours. I got the shade Yellow Beige, which is around shade #23 in Korean base products, or around a NC25-30. This product goes on the skin very lightweight and evenly. It’s more on the liquidy side of CC Creams, which I like. This does not cling on any dry parts and also does not accentuate fine lines and pores. The only downside to this is the coverage. It’s light, but buildable¬†to medium coverage so if you’re someone that likes a full coverage foundation, this might not be the best. But if you’re like me and you like more of a natural, lightweight finish for everyday wear, then this perfect! It blends out evenly to give a velvety finish with a soft, healthy glow. Because it is so lightweight and soft, it looks just like skin.

The Petale CC Cream feels quite moisturising on the skin, but not greasy. It just feels like a nice, cooling splash of hydration on the face. However, because of this, I feel like the longevity isn’t great. I usually get around 4 hours wear, and then find myself having to touch up (which I really don’t mind because cushions are very touch-up friendly). I like setting this with a powder and a setting spray, which extends my wear time by an extra 2 hours or so. I really like how this makes my skin look and feel though, so I don’t really mind having to touch up.

Overall, these products are both amazing individually and when worn together! The¬†Mon Cheri Lumiere Complexion & Pore Refiner Instant Pore Eraser is amazing if you have problems with pores. Even if you don’t wear makeup, it’s a great product to smooth over your skin for a soft finish. The¬†Mon Cheri Petale CC Cream is amazing if you’re into natural-looking base products. It’s lightweight and has a velvety finish and a soft glow. If you’re interested in these products,¬†Mon Cheri is currently having a promotion where you can get both of these products at RM245, and¬†get a Gentle Cleanser for FREE!¬†

Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar

Peach shades have been long time favourites of many when it comes to makeup, especially lipstick and blush. More recently, thanks to the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette, it’s started a whole peach eyeshadow craze. I’m not complaining though, because I am one of those people in the craze, haha. Since the peach eyeshadow craze is pretty new, there aren’t many palettes out there similar to the TF Sweet Peach. So naturally when I came across this¬†Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar Palette, the question “Could¬†it be?!¬†Could this palette¬†finally dupe the Sweet Peach palette?” came immediately to mind.

Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar Palette

In the Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar palette, it looks like many shades are similar to the Sweet Peach. However, after swatching both palettes side by side, it’s clear that the answer is still¬†no, it’s not a dupe. At all.¬†Only two shades are similar enough to be dupes, which are the shades Bellini and Tempting from the Too Faced palette. Even though it’s not a dupe for the Too Faced Sweet Peach, it is still a very gorgeous peach palette. There is a good variety of light to dark shades, and a good mix of mattes and shimmers (also one glittery!). There is a shimmery light gold shade, called Bubble Bath (most right)¬†that is a beautiful highlight shade, and Raw Cacao¬†(most left) is amazing to smoke out any eye look.

Even though I’ve heard amazing things about this palette, I was a little worried about the formula and pigmentation of these. I’ve tried some Etude House single shadows that were just …meh. However, I’m happy to report that the formula of these¬†Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar¬†palette eyeshadows are¬†pretty good.¬†They’re very soft and buttery, and the pigmentation depends on the shade, but overall is pretty good. The only shades where the pigmentation are a miss for me, are Raw Cacao and¬†Soft Peach.

Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar Palette

These eyeshadows are very easy to pack on for full-on colour, with a brush or your fingers. They also blend seamlessly into each other. However, these don’t last very long on their own on my oily eyelids, but that’s pretty normal. With an eyeshadow primer underneath, these can last the entire day.

Etude House Play Color Eyes Juice Bar Palette

Overall, it’s a pretty good palette. Would I run to the store (or their website lol) to get it¬†right away? Probably not. The palette has a good mix of peach shades that are pretty unique and not easily dupable, but they’re honestly not something I would wear every day. But of course, that’s just me! If peach is your thing, and you’re sick of using the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette all the time, this is for you!

Shaving 101: The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Body Hair Removal

Summer is coming!!! Summer to me means crop tops, summer dresses, and of course cute shorts! And all of those mean.. no more slacking when it comes to removing body hair, hahaha! There are so many types of hair removal techniques, but which is the best? I personally prefer shaving, just because I have very low pain tolerance, and that means waxing is out of the picture! Shaving is effective, convenient, painless (if done right!) and most importantly, fast (lazy girl probs, amirite?). So today I thought I’d show you a full on guide to shaving for the (lazy) every day girl, not-so-cleverly titled “Shaving 101”.

Shaving 101: The Lazy Girl's Guide to Body Hair Removal

I’m just going to come right out and say it before we begin, no you don’t¬†have to remove your body hair if you don’t want to. I’m all about the “you do you” concept! I personally prefer removing body hair, especially in certain areas, for hygienic purposes. Also, shaving¬†does not¬†make your hair grow back thicker! This is a common myth! Now that that’s out of the way, lets get started! ūüôā

Shaving 101: The Lazy Girl's Guide to Body Hair Removal

    Different Body Part, Different Razor?

For hygienic purposes and for ease of hair removal, using a different type of razor for each body part is really important. For my arms, underarms, and leg area, I like using those normal razors you find at the drugstore that are specifically marketed for women. I don’t have¬†too much hair on my arms and legs so I only do this about once every two weeks. However, for the¬†important parts of my body, I love using my¬†Veet Sensitive Touch Electric Trimmer.¬†This electric trimmer comes with two interchangeable razor heads for different parts of the body, and three clip ons for desired and even length.

But What Do I Use, for Which Part?

For my eyebrows, I use the smaller razor head that offers precision so I don’t accidentally shave my eyebrows off (gasp!). My natural eyebrow shape is absolutely horrible – it’s sparse, and it grows¬†everywhere. I like that I can get a clean shape when I use this. I also love the clip on it comes with, which I run over my entire brow to trim¬†my brow hairs the same length. This helps to even out the brows so it doesn’t look patchy. My eyebrow hairs grow very fast so I do this every 5-7 days to prevent caterpillar eyebrows. I also like using the smaller razor to shave my gal-stache and the sides of my face. This makes makeup go on much smoother!

Another area where I love using the¬†Veet Sensitive Touch Electric Trimmer¬†is down south! I know this might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I personally like to keep my bikini area shaved and clean. Shaving your pubic region is actually more hygienic, especially when it comes to your periods. I’m sorry but my next sentence is going to gross you out, haha! If you use pads, you know pads with period blood and pubic hair don’t mix well. Maybe going completely bare down there is not your thing. However, it’s good to keep it clean and sanitary down there, so the electric trimmer comes with an attachment comb that you can use to trim your hairs to your desired length.

Shaving 101: The Lazy Girl's Guide to Body Hair Removal

To Use Shaving Cream, or Not to Use Shaving Cream?

Shaving cream or gel is extremely important if you’re shaving with normal razors! They keep the area you want to shave moisturised, and reduce the risk of cuts and nicks. If you’re using an electric razor, some will still require some sort of shaving cream. Make sure you read the instructions carefully! As for the¬†Veet Sensitive Touch Electric Trimmer,¬†no shaving cream is required. It is highly recommended that this electric trimmer be used on dry skin.

How to Prevent Cuts and Nicks

Shaving is the best way to remove body hairs because it is painless, but only when done right! If shaving is not done correctly, there is a high chance of getting cuts and nicks. I find that using an electric razor specifically made for sensitive skin like this Veet Sensitive Touch Electric Trimmer is the best way to go.¬†The most common way to prevent cuts is to shave while you’re in the shower in a warm environment. The warmth opens up the pores, allowing the hair to be removed much easier, whereas the water helps to lubricate and moisturise the area. If shaving out of the shower or if you have very sensitive skin, use a shaving cream to prevent cuts and nicks. Not only that, shaving your hair following the direction of hair growth will help prevent cuts and nicks too! Lastly, change your razor blades regularly! Once the blade starts to get dull and blunt, shaving won’t be smooth and might cause cuts!

Shaving 101: The Lazy Girl's Guide to Body Hair Removal

    Moisturise Well After!

After shaving, it is important to moisturise your skin well to prevent irritation. I used to not know this and wondered why my face would have red patches all over where I shaved. I did some research and found that it’s razor burn. Now before I shave, I apply a thin layer or aloe vera gel to prevent razor burn, and another layer of aloe vera gel after to cool down and moisturise the skin. Also, moisturising leaves your new clean, shaven skin soft and supple!

That concludes my Shaving 101: The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Body Hair Removal! I hope you found it helpful! To recap, choosing the right razor for different parts of the body is the most crucial step. Make sure your skin is well moisturised before and after shaving to make shaving a completely painless process!

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads | bliv Off With Those Heads

Ahhhh blackheads.. we all have them. Doesn’t mean we like them very much, though! Blackheads make your pores look bigger, and makeup can’t cover them up for you! If anything, makeup accentuates blackheads because foundations just don’t apply smoothly over them. As much as we hate them, blackheads are a common problem and we need to fix that, stat! So in this post, I’ve partnered up with b.liv to show you guys 5¬†ways to get rid of blackheads. Also, just to throw in a little bit of a warning, this post might be a little graphic so… read on with caution!

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

Blackheads are essentially wax plugs in your pores caused by oil, dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells built up over time. There are so many different ways to get rid of blackheads but some might do more harm than good. Picking at your blackheads, or squeezing them (I know you do it!! So do I :p) can cause damage to the surrounding skin so don’t do it! Don’t even get me started on pore strips! Yes, they’re fun and seeing the blackheads pulled out on the nose strip is a very satisfying feeling (just me?). However, pore strips are bad for your skin as they can cause tearing of the skin and they also remove only a part of the blackhead itself. So how,¬†oh how, do we get rid of these pesky little blackheads?

    Cleanse Your Skin Well

This is the most important step! Although cleansers won’t help get rid of blackheads that are already there, it will stop new ones from forming. ALWAYS, ALWAYS,¬†ALWAYS remove your makeup well and practise a double cleansing routine. A double cleansing routine simply means to remove your makeup and dirt with one cleanser (cleansing water, cleansing milk, cleansing oil, etc) and then wash any excess dirt left on your skin (even if you can’t see it!) with a cleansing foam. Cleansing your skin well will ensure there is no excess dirt left on your face to settle into your pores.

    Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!

Exfoliating your skin will hugely benefit your skin and prevent future blackheads. Because blackheads are made of dead skin cells, dirt, bacteria and oil, using either a physical or a chemical exfoliant can help to remove all of these. Don’t use an exfoliant that is too harsh or it might tear your skin in the process! Opt for something gentle, or go with a chemical exfoliant for better results.

    Use a Blackhead Treatment

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

B.liv Off With Those Heads Blackhead Remover (RM99 for 15ml)

Most blackhead solutions are ways to prevent getting future blackheads, but how do you actually get rid of the ones currently chilling on your nose? Use a blackhead treatment! One of the most famous blackhead treatments out there is the b.liv Off With Those Heads blackhead remover. It is marketed as a sebum gel that extracts blackheads and whiteheads without painful squeezing. Not only does it help to remove blackheads, it also helps control and balances the secretion of sebum thus causing less frequent occurrences of blackheads in the future.

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

b.liv Off With Those Heads has four main ingredients to facilitate the removal of blackheads. Tea Tree Oil is a natural anti-bacterial that will help to control acne and remove bacteria in the blackheads. Tea Tree Oil also has calming effects to soothe the skin. There is also Aloe Vera Extract, which is another natural anti-bacterial. It also helps to soothe and hydrate your skin while helping to fade acne scars. Witch Hazel Extract is beneficial to the skin by controlling sebum production and tightening pores. Lastly, but most importantly, Peppermint Oil helps to remove blackheads and whiteheads by deeply cleansing the skin and controlling the amount of oil on your skin.

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

The¬†b.liv Off With Those Heads is a lightweight gel that absorbs into the skin almost immediately. I applied this over the areas where I have blackheads (nose) and whiteheads (below my lower lip/chin area. Anyone else has this?) for 3 weeks, and the results are amazing! You’re about to see a blown-up, suuuuuper zoomed-in picture of my blackheads (which, warning again, might be pretty gross to some).

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

You can see that most of my blackheads are gone! There are still some tinier ones left but overall, it reduced the amount of blackheads I had drastically. This worked better than any pore strip that I’ve ever tried and didn’t inflict even the tiniest bit of pain. If you have sensitive skin, the gel might sting a little at first, but I didn’t experience that personally. It worked even better on my whiteheads, which stupid me forgot to take pictures of it before so I can’t show you ūüôĀ

B.liv Off With Those Heads Blackhead Remover

    Price: RM99

    Volume: 15ml

    Available at:

All Sa Sa outlets in Malaysia

If you have problems with blackheads and you’re looking for a painless way to remove them, you need to try this out! It’s painless, so effective and you’ll be able to see results in just 7 days.

Use a Weekly Mask to Draw Out Impurities

Clay and charcoal masks both help to draw out oil and impurities from your skin, leaving you with bright, smooth skin. This can go a long way in helping to reduce the occurrence of blackheads. I like using a clay mask once a week to help pull out all the dirt and gross things that cleansers can’t.

    Never Forget to Moisturise!

Since getting rid of blackheads is mostly getting rid of oil and dirt, this can cause your skin to dry out due to lack of oil. This is why you should always moisturise to rehydrate your skin. Try choosing a moisturiser that isn’t too rich or greasy. Yes, you reduce oil to get rid of blackheads, but you also need to moisturise to keep your skin feeling smooth and bright. It’s all about the balance!

Getting rid of those annoying blackheads are easier than you might think! I hope this post is helpful to help you get rid of blackheads! Remember, always double cleanse your skin to prevent dirt and oil from clogging your pores. Also, using a gentle exfoliant (especially a chemical one!) works amazingly to get rid of dead skin and dirt, which can also clog your pores. The most important step in getting rid of blackheads is using a blackhead treatment that will soften the wax plug and extract it without pain. I really like the¬†b.liv Off With Those Heads for this purpose! A deep cleansing mask will also help to draw out impurities and absorb excess oil. Lastly, never ever forget to moisturise. It’s all about keeping the right balance of sebum on your skin!

Peripera Fashion People’s Box INK Lip Pencil

Ok yes, I admit, I’m kind of in the middle of a crazy K-beauty obsession right now. I’m not so much into the makeup styles they have… I mean, creating puffiness under my eyes with makeup on my already existing dark circles? No thanks. They look amazing on some people, but definitely not on this gal right here! Anyway, my point is, lol, that Korean beauty products aren’t just for creating Korean beauty looks. They’re amazing to incorporate into your daily makeup routine as well. One product that Korean beauty is known for (and for good reason) is their super long-lasting lip products. When you speak of Korean beauty lip products, one brand always comes up – Peripera! Today I’ll be reviewing the Peripera Fashion People’s Box INK Lip Pencil¬†(phew what a mouthful!) to see if they live up to their name!

The¬†Peripera Fashion People’s Box INK Lip Pencil is a limited edition set, and you can’t buy the lip pencils separately. The set comes housed in a metal box with a graffiti design which can be used to hold all your lip pencils, after removing the plastic of course! There are 8 mini lip pencils in here which has 0.3g of product each. This retails anywhere between $25 to $30, but Jolse has it for a discounted price of $21 (which is less than $3 each).¬†In the set, there is a great colour range, from nudes to pinks, to reds and there’s even a purple.

    You Can Buy These At:

    Jolse ($21)

These pencils twist-up so you don’t have to worry about sharpening them. Since they are pencils, you can be very precise with your application. Lip pencils have a reputation for being drying and drag on the lips when you’re applying it, but I’m happy to report that these are very creamy and glide on easily! They don’t cling onto dry lips or accentuate the lines on the lips.

I’m just going to come right out and say it – YES! A 100% YES – these definitely live up to the Peripera name! They are super pigmented, very creamy and long lasting. When you first apply it to the lips, it gives a somewhat glossy finish that’s kind of¬†meh because I’m not really a glossy lip kind of gal. However, it does start to wear off after an hour and leave your lips with a GORGEOUS stain. That’s where the magic happens! These easily last through drinks and meals, and yes, makeout seshs too (you’re welcome ;)). I find that I only need to reapply if it’s been a LONG 10 hour day. Even then, these are so small and easy to carry in the purse.

Umm before we get into the swatches, yes I have bed hair. It was a Sunday morning when I took these pictures. And yes, that is a pajama top, hehe. Okay, on to the swatches!

#1 Beige –¬†This is my least favourite shade out of all 8. I’m not a fan of super light nudes, and this one is very, very light! It’s a beige nude shade that is the same shade as my light-medium skin tone, only slightly pinker. If you’re fair or pale, this would look really pretty though! The best thing about this colour is that even though it’s so light, it doesn’t look patchy on the lips. It’s still opaque and creamy. However, since this is such a light colour, it doesn’t stain the lips at all. Because of this, it only wears for an hour or two before having to be reapplied.

#2 Yellow Orange –¬†My bad! This shade is actually called Yellow Orange, not Yellow Beige. It’s¬†a¬†gorgeous wearable orange shade that has just the right amount of pink in it. This has rekindled my love for orange lipsticks! I used to wear them every day. I honestly don’t know why I ever stopped!

#3 Grapefruit –¬†This is one of my favourite shades! It’s the perfect in between red and pink shade that complements my skin tone so well. It makes my overall complexion look healthy and fresh and awake. I’ve been wearing this shade when I have to get out the door at 8am for 9am classes because I look like a zombie otherwise. It’s fun and bright, but not too bold, which I like!

#4 Pink –¬†This is a very girly and feminine pink shade. It’s a neutral pink with just a¬†liiiiittle bit of blue undertones. I don’t usually wear pink shades like this, but this one is really pretty! I’m passing this one on to my cousin who lives in pink lipsticks.

#5 Red –¬†This is a red that has some pink in it. Geez, I suck at describing colours, don’t I? Anyway, I was hoping this would be like a true, crimson red so I was a little let down. I find that this is even more pink than Grapefruit, which is weird, considering it’s called Red. It is¬†still a really pretty colour, though.

#6 Fuchsia Red –¬†This one is a bright, bold hot fuchsia pink shade. Fun fact – I can never remember how to spell fuchsia. I’ve always spelled it as fuschia, just because it seems to sound that way haha. Back to the topic at hand, this is a gorgeous summer shade! Fuchsia is not a colour I would typically wear, but this actually complements my skin tone quite well!

#7 Rose –¬†This is my everyday go-to shade. I’ve been wearing this every single day, only swapping it out for Grapefruit sometimes. It’s the perfect MLBB shade for me that isn’t too muted, but isn’t too bold either. This leaves a really pretty natural stain on my lips that looks like I naturally have gorgeously coloured lips (nobody has to know ;)).

#8 Violet –¬†It’s violet, like the name suggests! I have yellow undertones, and colours like this is a little too contrast-y on me. I’m giving this one to my sister, who is much fairer, with more neutral undertones. The stain that this shade leaves is a¬†bright pink shade.

Overall, these are a must have in my opinion! If you love long-lasting lip shades, but you’re¬†oh so over all the drying liquid lipsticks and lip tints, check out the¬†Peripera Fashion People’s Box INK Lip Pencil. They’re super creamy, goes on smoothly and doesn’t cling to dry lips, they’re pigmented, and they come in 8 completely different shades. For less than $3 each, you cannot go wrong with these!
