5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads | bliv Off With Those Heads

Ahhhh blackheads.. we all have them. Doesn’t mean we like them very much, though! Blackheads make your pores look bigger, and makeup can’t cover them up for you! If anything, makeup accentuates blackheads because foundations just don’t apply smoothly over them. As much as we hate them, blackheads are a common problem and we need to fix that, stat! So in this post, I’ve partnered up with b.liv to show you guys 5 ways to get rid of blackheads. Also, just to throw in a little bit of a warning, this post might be a little graphic so… read on with caution!

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

Blackheads are essentially wax plugs in your pores caused by oil, dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells built up over time. There are so many different ways to get rid of blackheads but some might do more harm than good. Picking at your blackheads, or squeezing them (I know you do it!! So do I :p) can cause damage to the surrounding skin so don’t do it! Don’t even get me started on pore strips! Yes, they’re fun and seeing the blackheads pulled out on the nose strip is a very satisfying feeling (just me?). However, pore strips are bad for your skin as they can cause tearing of the skin and they also remove only a part of the blackhead itself. So how, oh how, do we get rid of these pesky little blackheads?

    Cleanse Your Skin Well

This is the most important step! Although cleansers won’t help get rid of blackheads that are already there, it will stop new ones from forming. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS remove your makeup well and practise a double cleansing routine. A double cleansing routine simply means to remove your makeup and dirt with one cleanser (cleansing water, cleansing milk, cleansing oil, etc) and then wash any excess dirt left on your skin (even if you can’t see it!) with a cleansing foam. Cleansing your skin well will ensure there is no excess dirt left on your face to settle into your pores.

    Exfoliate, Exfoliate, Exfoliate!

Exfoliating your skin will hugely benefit your skin and prevent future blackheads. Because blackheads are made of dead skin cells, dirt, bacteria and oil, using either a physical or a chemical exfoliant can help to remove all of these. Don’t use an exfoliant that is too harsh or it might tear your skin in the process! Opt for something gentle, or go with a chemical exfoliant for better results.

    Use a Blackhead Treatment

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

B.liv Off With Those Heads Blackhead Remover (RM99 for 15ml)

Most blackhead solutions are ways to prevent getting future blackheads, but how do you actually get rid of the ones currently chilling on your nose? Use a blackhead treatment! One of the most famous blackhead treatments out there is the b.liv Off With Those Heads blackhead remover. It is marketed as a sebum gel that extracts blackheads and whiteheads without painful squeezing. Not only does it help to remove blackheads, it also helps control and balances the secretion of sebum thus causing less frequent occurrences of blackheads in the future.

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

b.liv Off With Those Heads has four main ingredients to facilitate the removal of blackheads. Tea Tree Oil is a natural anti-bacterial that will help to control acne and remove bacteria in the blackheads. Tea Tree Oil also has calming effects to soothe the skin. There is also Aloe Vera Extract, which is another natural anti-bacterial. It also helps to soothe and hydrate your skin while helping to fade acne scars. Witch Hazel Extract is beneficial to the skin by controlling sebum production and tightening pores. Lastly, but most importantly, Peppermint Oil helps to remove blackheads and whiteheads by deeply cleansing the skin and controlling the amount of oil on your skin.

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

The b.liv Off With Those Heads is a lightweight gel that absorbs into the skin almost immediately. I applied this over the areas where I have blackheads (nose) and whiteheads (below my lower lip/chin area. Anyone else has this?) for 3 weeks, and the results are amazing! You’re about to see a blown-up, suuuuuper zoomed-in picture of my blackheads (which, warning again, might be pretty gross to some).

5 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

You can see that most of my blackheads are gone! There are still some tinier ones left but overall, it reduced the amount of blackheads I had drastically. This worked better than any pore strip that I’ve ever tried and didn’t inflict even the tiniest bit of pain. If you have sensitive skin, the gel might sting a little at first, but I didn’t experience that personally. It worked even better on my whiteheads, which stupid me forgot to take pictures of it before so I can’t show you 🙁

If you have problems with blackheads and you’re looking for a painless way to remove them, you need to try this out! It’s painless, so effective and you’ll be able to see results in just 7 days.

Use a Weekly Mask to Draw Out Impurities

Clay and charcoal masks both help to draw out oil and impurities from your skin, leaving you with bright, smooth skin. This can go a long way in helping to reduce the occurrence of blackheads. I like using a clay mask once a week to help pull out all the dirt and gross things that cleansers can’t.

    Never Forget to Moisturise!

Since getting rid of blackheads is mostly getting rid of oil and dirt, this can cause your skin to dry out due to lack of oil. This is why you should always moisturise to rehydrate your skin. Try choosing a moisturiser that isn’t too rich or greasy. Yes, you reduce oil to get rid of blackheads, but you also need to moisturise to keep your skin feeling smooth and bright. It’s all about the balance!

Getting rid of those annoying blackheads are easier than you might think! I hope this post is helpful to help you get rid of blackheads! Remember, always double cleanse your skin to prevent dirt and oil from clogging your pores. Also, using a gentle exfoliant (especially a chemical one!) works amazingly to get rid of dead skin and dirt, which can also clog your pores. The most important step in getting rid of blackheads is using a blackhead treatment that will soften the wax plug and extract it without pain. I really like the b.liv Off With Those Heads for this purpose! A deep cleansing mask will also help to draw out impurities and absorb excess oil. Lastly, never ever forget to moisturise. It’s all about keeping the right balance of sebum on your skin!

Sheep Oil Cream For Your Face?

TGITFW (TG it’s the freaking weekend) guys! I started a new semester at uni two weeks ago. It’s only week 2, and things are starting to pile up! The 3-month break threw me off my uni game (more than) a little, guys. Help. Anyway, today I’m reviewing a product from my February BNT Box (long due, sorry!) and it is the Kicho Sheep Oil Cream (“wait.. what?!” I know, that was my initial reaction too!). I’ve never heard of a sheep oil cream before I received this. I mean, I’ve heard of horse oil creams before because they’re a big hit in Korean beauty. But a sheep oil cream? Then I went to Perth, Australia and I see that they’re all over the place! It’s called lanolin cream in Australia, though.

    Kicho Sheep Oil Cream

Kicho is a Korean beauty brand that prides themselves on creating products that satisfy these points – Basic, Harmony, Needs, Pure and Honest. Their products are simple and not overly complicated, they work in unity with your skin, they give your skin what it needs, their products are made of natural ingredients, and most importantly, they always deliver what they promise.

I love the packaging of this Kicho Sheep Oil Cream! The product comes in a glass jar and a metal lid which looks very luxurious. And have you seen that outer packaging?? It’s a sturdy box that has floral patterns all over it, and it should also have a holographic Kicho sticker on the side of the box (which I forgot to photograph) to show its authenticity. There is 60ml of product in this, and it retails for $58. Pretty pricey, right?

    Kicho Sheep Oil Cream

The main ingredient of this Kicho Sheep Oil Cream is, of course, lanolin! Lanolin is a fatty substance found naturally in sheep’s wool. Lanolin is widely used in beauty products because it is the closest oil to our skin’s natural sebum. The extraction of lanolin does NOT harm the sheep – I would never try it otherwise! Lanolin is an effective ingredient in hydrating and soothing the skin. Apart from the lanolin, this Kicho Sheep Oil Cream also boasts an 8-berry complex that’s full of vitamin C which is an effective antioxidant to brighten, firm and moisturise the skin.

Kicho markets this Sheep Oil Cream as suitable for all skin types, but I had my concerns. Since I have oily skin, I was a little worried that this oil might be too rich for my skin, and cause my skin to break out.

    Kicho Sheep Oil Cream

The cream itself is a pale yellow colour and has a faint citrus scent. The citrusy scent is actually very refreshing and smells really nice (well, if you’re a fan of citrus scents, that is). It’s not overpowering and it doesn’t linger on the skin so even if you’re not a huge citrus fan, it probably won’t bother you. The texture of this is a lightweight cream and it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. However, it does feel slightly greasy to the touch after applying it. Because of this, I would only use this cream during the night time.

So back to the question in mind – does this really work on oily skin? Well, my friends, the answer is both yes and no. No, because it’s too oily to use in the morning. Any makeup that you put on top of this will just slide right off! I use a different moisturiser with SPF in the morning anyway so this doesn’t bother me. But yes, because it doesn’t break me out and it actually does what it says. I put this on as my night time moisturiser and wake up with smooth, hydrated, and bright skin. I don’t really have any problems with ageing skin yet, because I’m only in my early 20s, so I haven’t noticed anything on the anti-aging side of things.

This Kicho Sheep Oil Cream would be an amazing product if you have dry skin. Dry skin is usually caused by the lack of sebum in our skin. Because lanolin is so close to our natural skin sebum, it will help to hydrate the skin. When your skin is moisturised, it will get rid of the dry flakes that cause rough skin, leaving you with baby smooth skin. I have combination skin (mostly oily, though) and some dry patches on my lower jaw area and this product has really helped get rid of those.

If you have combination or oily skin that is in need of a little brightening, smoothing and some hydration, this would be a good product to check out. If you don’t mind having a separate day time moisturiser, that is. At $58, this is a little pricey, but I don’t mind splurging occasionally on a good skincare product.

    Paula’s Choice Skincare | Review

Oh, hello there! Yes, I haven’t posted in ages. No, I don’t have an excuse hehe. But today I’m back at you with a new post on some Paula’s Choice skincare products that I’ve tried out over the past month. These products were kindly sent to me by Nana from Facial Malaysia to try out. Facial Malaysia is a beauty centre that not only offers Paula’s Choice products, but they also have facial treatments. Paula’s Choice products are all manufactured in the USA, have no added fragrances or dyes, and are cruelty-free.

    Paula's Choice Skincare Review

If you’re new here (hello!), I have combination skin that is mostly oily, with dry patches on my cheeks and jawline. Finding the perfect skincare products for my combination skin can be challenging because the product has to be lightweight enough for my oily skin, yet hydrating enough for the dry parts of my face. Ya feel me, fellow combo gals?

    Paula's Choice Skincare Review

Nana and I discussed my skin type and concerns. I have acne-prone skin that can sometimes look dull, so I told her I wanted something gentle that would help give me radiant skin. She picked out the Paula’s Choice Resist Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser to help balance the moisture levels on my skin, and also the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion that is gently exfoliating while keeping the skin hydrated and soft to achieve the radiant skin that I (and everyone in the entire world, I assume) want.

Paula's Choice Resist Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser Review Paula's Choice Resist Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser Review

Paula’s Choice Resist Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser

I use this after removing my makeup with a cleansing water, and it removes all the leftover makeup and dirt that the cleansing water might have missed. One pump of the product is the perfect amount for the entire face as it lathers up very well. After washing this off, my skin feels refreshed and cool. It doesn’t overly strip my skin of all oils so my skin doesn’t feel dry and tight. However, the drier parts of my face can start to feel a bit tight if I don’t apply my skincare straight after. That doesn’t really bother me because I usually put on my skincare straight after. If you have combination to oily skin, this is a great cleanser that works. But because it’s specially formulated for oilier skin, it will probably be way too drying on dry skin.

Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant Review

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant

This is a super gentle exfoliant that’s great at keeping your skin soft and bright. BHA helps in removing dead skin, unclogging pores, hydrating the skin and also has anti-aging properties. When I first started using this, I noticed my skin getting quite dry. This was because I was using this as a moisturiser …yep 😐 haha. The “Lotion” in the name kind of threw me off a little. After realising my mistake, I started using a moisturiser after this exfoliant and I’m freaking in love. This has really helped tighten my pores and keep my skin hydrated. My skin doesn’t have as many dry flakes as it used to and feels super smooth to the touch.

I’ve really enjoyed using these and they now have their own place in my daily skincare routine. The Resist Perfectly Balanced Foaming Cleanser helps to remove all traces of makeup and dirt, keeping my skin clean and refreshed. It’s a great cleanser, but I wouldn’t run out to purchase it right now. That’s something with cleansers – I always feel like they’re good if they do the job, and most of them do, you know? The Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Lotion Exfoliant is a completely different story, though! If you have problems with rough skin, large pores, or dry skin, I suggest checking this out! It has helped my skin out so much and I would definitely repurchase this.

    THELAVICOS Nutrition Hydro Gel Mask

TGIF, guys! Today’s post is a review on another Korean skincare product that I got from my BNTGirls box for December. Today we’re talking about THELAVICOS Nutrition Hydro Gel Mask. Can I just say how much I freaking love sheet masks, and how much more I love hydro gel masks? Hydro gel masks are those that look like they’re made with gelatin (lol I honestly don’t know how else to describe it. Help a gal out, Google!) that stick really well on the skin and looks like a second layer of skin after you apply it.

    THELAVICOS Nutrition Hydro Gel Mask

This one that I got is the THELAVICOS Nutrition Hydro Gel Mask for Whitening & Anti-Wrinkle, and it came in a box of 5 sheets. The description of this reads, “Nutrition total skin care resolves various complex skin concerns at once to make skin youthful by providing total care”. I don’t typically look for products that whiten my skin or anti-wrinkle products (just yet), but I really like anti-aging products that improves skin elasticity. I was hoping this mask might be helpful for that. Since it claims to resolve various skin concerns, I was also hoping it would help to hydrate, brighten and smooth my skin.

    THELAVICOS Nutrition Hydro Gel Mask

This mask comes in two parts – one for the top of the face from the forehead to the nose, and one for the bottom from the upper lip to the jawline. When I first opened the packaging of the mask, it was quite messy. The mask is very saturated with the essence (which is great), but it was so slippery that the backing of the mask actually came off in the packaging. This left me with the pieces of hydro gel masks which are so slippery that I can barely hold, let alone put it on my face. After struggling for what felt like 802 minutes, I finally got the mask on.

    THELAVICOS Nutrition Hydro Gel Mask

A few minutes after putting it on, I felt a slight tingly sensation on the drier parts of my face. My skin has been horribly dry these past couple of days. It started to feel more and more tingly. After a couple of minutes, the tinglyness subsided and my face feels cool and fresh. The instructions on the mask says to leave it on for about 20-30 minutes and I took it off around the 25 minute mark when the mask felt like it was dry.

    Results

After taking the mask off, my skin looks so much brighter! I think the tinglyness on my dry areas was actually the essence working in that area and hydrating my face because my skin looks so glowy, bright and hydrated. I don’t think it whitens, but it does brighten by hydrating and removing the dull, dry skin on the face. This mask is amazing after a long day, especially in the 35°weather right now, because it feels cooling and refreshes my face.

Overall, I really like this THELAVICOS Nutrition Hydro Gel mask and I’m thinking of repurchasing when I run out. It’s a great relaxing mask that helps to hydrate and brighten, all while cooling down and refreshing the skin after a long day out.

    Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist

I love myself a good face mist and I have to admit when I saw this Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist, I was super intrigued. Honestly the word “sparkling” in the name really caught my eye because I’m easily amused like that lol. Anyway, this Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist came in my BNTGirls December box, and I’m reviewing it for you today! I think it’s quite a cool concept, but some might find it to be gimmicky. Either way, lets find out!

    Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist

The Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist comes in a gorgeous sparkly blue box and houses two bottles – one contains the “vitamins” and one is an empty (well, initially) spray bottle. The spray bottle looks very luxurious – it’s a glass spray bottle with gold accents. There are 4 different pastel coloured vitamins in the bottle, and they each have a unique use.

    Different Colour, Different Use:

    Green: Anti-wrinkle

    Blue: Skin Reproduction

    Yellow: Skin Whitening

    Pink: Skin Condition Management

    Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist

    How to Use:

Basically, you’re supposed to fill the empty glass bottle with two-thirds of warm water, and then drop in a vitamin of your choice. Once you drop the vitamin into the water, it fizzes immediately (hence sparkling mist) and starts to melt. Then, I leave it to melt for a good 5-10 minutes and then secure the cap back on the bottle. If the vitamin has not fully melted or done fizzing, you have to reopen the cap in 1-2 hours to release carbonated gas. If it is not released, the increase in pressure can ruin the spray. To me, this is both cool and also a little bit tedious. Because there are no preservatives in their vitamins, you can only keep the spray you made for 4 days, and then you’ll have to remake with another vitamin.

    Results

I like the spray bottle that comes with this. The spray is a fine mist that distributes evenly across the skin. Depending on the colour of the vitamin you use, the colour of the spray differs as well. As you can see from the pictures above, the blue creates a gorgeous ocean blue colour. However, I’m sure you can imagine the colour that the yellow creates (I actually showed this on Snapchat, follow me there (@Jiawunn) for what I like to call science experiments lol, but with makeup. And send me ALL your makeup snaps too, I’m on there 24/7. Yikes!).

The actual product though, sadly, is a huge miss for me. It smells amazing, it has a very light scent that smells and feels fresh on the skin. However, it didn’t really do anything for my skin. After using this product almost daily for a month, I haven’t been able to notice any sort of difference on my skin. It doesn’t break me out, but it doesn’t do anything to my skin either. This Mulbit Vitamin Sparkling Mist was a huge let down because I was really excited and wanted this to work.
